A Message from the Road Running, Cross Country and Vets Team:

Hi, my name is Duncan and along with Nigel, Sean, Pete and John, we run the senior road running, cross country and Vets section of the club. The main two training nights are Tuesday and Thursday evening. However, we also partake in Sunday sessions, when we run in smaller groups at different tempos in order to train for different events, e.g. half marathons and 26 mile distance.

Tuesday: this is effort night andwe set off from Aldersley Stadium at 6.30pm sharp (or when Teresa & the twins finally get there!). The group is about 25 strong and sometimes more. We go out to different areas on grass, hills and roads. We also set distances that range from 1:30 effort to 3 minutes. The efforts set are hopefully testing and get the best out of the individual; be it to improve speed, increase stamina, weight loss or just for the feel good factor. Come along, meet the group and have a go.

I work on the principal of mind over matter – I don’t mind and you dont’ matter! It’s hard work, but ask others in the group; it works and we have a good laugh too. When the efforts are over, we have a warm down back at Aldersley, where after a shower, we often chat over a bar meal and a drink.

Thursday: these sessions are split into two groups. People running in team events leave from the stadium. This session is for the more advaned runners whose times range from aound 31/40 minutes for a 10k event. The second group of runners run from Goodrich Sports and Social club at Fordhouses, and all ability runners are welcome. Both groups leave at 6.30pm sharp. During the summer months a programme of Thursday runs are arranged starting and finishing at local pubs (check the calendar on this website to see the schedule).

We train to compete at the highest level. Our current league position is Division 1 for cross-country, and we have had good success in the veterans track and field events.

We look forward to meeting you on Tuesday/Thursday evenings.
