Volunteers wanted to help out with this 5k event at West Park. The walk is taking place on Sunday 4th October, with participants arriving at 10am with an expected departure of 2pm. We would, therefore, need volunteers from around 9.30am onwards. We are expecting 104 participants on the day, in teams of four.
On the day, volunteers will be marshals along the route, directing walkers, or helping make sure the challenges run smoothly. Volunteers will need to ensure participants perform the challenges correctly, record the winner and set up the challenge for the next pair of teams. We will also need volunteers to help out at the beginning and end of the walk, directing participants as they arrive and congratulating them as they finish. All participants will be fully briefed on the day.

Mens results; Womens results
Don’t know what happened to the mens a team, as I know the team had a complete team!!!!! Looks like it went pear shaped on Matt Walton ’s leg. Will look into this with the organisers
For future reference always have a look at this race results site, as it contains results going back a number of years, and they are normally very quick with putting the results on the web.

Background
Many of you will remember Vernon Olivant and his enthusiasm for something different. Amongst other things he gave the Heroes ‘The Trackless Ten’ consisting of 29 laps around the outside of the track (not on the track therefore trackless) at Rowley Park.
Vernon’s Stupid Heroes League now promotes the Trackless Ten along the old railway track (lines removed therefore trackless) from Castlefields to Gnosall.
Luckily for us the powers that be have been beavering away improving the surface of the old railway bed. It is now possible to run all the way to Gnosall. A gate across the track prevents us going too far. So we can turn back and run down hill (70ft) back to Castlefields.

This year the Run for Dreams event will be taking place on Sunday October 11th and it would be great if as many of you as possible could get involved.
At just 4km it is a very achievable distance for everyone and all runner, joggers & walkers are welcome.
As always Patrons Suzi Perry, Don Goodman & Steve Bull will be there leading the warm-up and joining in the race. This year they will be joined by local soul-diva Beverley Knight so it’s a great chance to meet some of Wolverhampton’s stars whilst raising money for some very special children.
For an entry form and more details please visit the Promise Dreams website.
The Promise Dreams team are also looking for marshals so if you’re interested in volunteering then please contact club members Trish Morgan or Alison Cotterill.
Sports Star of the Year
The prestigious Be-Active Black Country regional sports and activity awards evening and dinner is to be held at the Copthorne Hotel on October 9th. This Black Tie event is one of the most important awards events in the region and we will have a very strong club presence.
After weeks of deliberation each of the award categories were reduced just three nominees for young sports person of the year, two of whom are from Wolves & Bilston AC. These two outstanding performers are Tannika Burgess and Ann Ika Oqua – CONGRATULATIONS to the both.
They have both had outstanding seasons – made all the more remarkable as both are at the lower end of their age group, so look out next season! Both girls also gave 100% to club events competing in all NYAL leagues and doing maximum events, as well as the Midland Women’s league, which is a tall order for most 15 year olds – we are all very proud of them.
Coaches of the Year
The club will have also have a strong presence in two other categories at the same awards event, as both myself and Clova have been shortlisted for coaches of the year. We feel that’s down to the performances of the whole group throughout the season – you have all stepped up and moved forward.
Team of the Year
The Sandwell girls’ team has also been shortlisted for Junior Team of the Year with a number of the clubs athletes involved in that success. Representing the team on the night will, of course, be Tannika and Ann, joined by Megan Dixon and Jodie Harrison. These four girls led the way and have had 100% attendance for the Sandwell team.
English Schools Combined Events
The last meet of the year took place at Bedford International Stadium September 19/20.
Three of our young stars succeeded through the area then regional championships to qualify for the final, the biggest event of its kind in Europe. They are Feron Sayers, Sarah Douras and Emma Douras. A report on the day will follow soon.
HOWARD & CLOVA COURT
Wolves and Bilston have been chosen to host this years cross country relays. Unfortunately we can’t use Aldersley Stadium, but we have arranged to use St Edmunds school instead as the venue.
Each mens team consists of 4 members, while womens teams are made up of 3. The course is familiar to us all as we have trained at St Edmunds many times, and will involve two laps of 3k each for a total distance of 6k.
We require as much support as possible for this event, but from my point of view I want to be able to enter the teams by the end of this week. I would hope to be able to put 5 or 6 mens teams together so I do require commitment on the day from as many of you as possible. Please get in touch with me as soon as to confirm your availability. I will try and speak to as many of you as possible this week.
Secondly, we will require a substantial amount of assistance on the day from setting the course up right through to clearing the course after the race. If you can help out at all can you contact either myself, Colin or Duncan.
It is planned that both races will be starting at 2.00pm.
Many thanks
Paul Tabor
Well done to all who took part on the Goodrich 10k and Fun Run on Sunday. It was another fantastic turn out with over 100 runners entering the 10k and a great number of kids (and a couple of adults) joining in the Fun Run. The weather was as good as ever, with the early morning mist soon being replaced with glorious sunshine.
The winners were as follows:
MEN
1st Chris Bagshaw Telford AC 33:55
2nd Ross Jones W&B 34:19
3rd Greg Wilson Telford AC 34:34
WOMEN
1st Audrey Wilson W&B 39:13
2nd Helen Tromans DK 44:02
3rd Tessa Parkinson W&B 46:05
The winner of the Fun Run was Matt Douglas, who runs for Wolves & Bilston young athletes.
You can download the full results for the 10k here. Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day, and we’ll see you all at the Turkey Trot in December!
