The second round of the Birmingham cross-country league took place on 1 December at Cofton Park. This year the men are in the first division having been promoted from the second division last year, there is very fierce competition as the standard is very high in this division. Like any team that is new to the premiership the real ambition this year is to ensure that we don’t get relegated again.Unlike some of the other clubs we do not have any superstars but we have a very strong, and enthusiastic squad which is increasingly numbers each year.
The race was 6.2 miles which was three laps around the park, the conditions were windy and very cold but thankfully there was no rain. However, parts of the course were very muddy and also quite hilly which made it a tough test.
Well done to Paul Hammond who was our top scorer in 42nd drugstore online position, he was followed home by Dan Brazier, Dave Smith, Ian Grindley, Matt Richards and Steve Cunningham as our scorers. Whilst we scored about the same points as in the first race we have slipped two places in the table as Birchfield and Rugby both fielded much stronger teams and have gone past us.We are now 13th but nearly 200 points ahead of Royal Sutton Coldfield who are a place behind us. The full set of results is now on the league website www.birminghamccleague.co.uk
The next race in the league is at Sandwell on the 12th January, before that we have the Staffs County Championship which is been held at Aldersley on 5th January. We are hoping to do well in the team race and possibly get some of our runners picked for the inter-county championships.
