Weekly update – 27th September 2025

Before we delve deeper into this weeks’ comings and goings I’ll start by catching up on a few things from last week. With so much happening I missed a handful of results from the Telford Games, apologies from me and thanks to Claudio Albanese for pointing it out. Tegjot Singh finished 3rd in the javelin with a throw of 42.90, he was also 2nd in the discus with 33.85 and won the shot with a throw of 10.36. And James Crust finished 3rd in the 400 clocking a time of 52.30.

On to last weekend where Emily Simmonds decided to run for almost the whole weekend, taking part in the Equinox 24 hours race. The plan was to complete as many laps in a 24 hour period from noon on Saturday, through the night to noon on Sunday. Emily ran for 60 miles covering 10 laps to finish in 44thplace out of 276th.

There were others just covering the one lap distance of 10k, first on Saturday at the Hartley Hare race near Wheaton Aston following a course through the Staffordshire countryside along trails, bridleways and country lanes. First home overall, and taking the 1st  ladies prize was Vicki Mackay who crossed the line in 48.07, Mark Perry was 20th in 1.05.31, and Julia Condon was 54th in 1.22.32. Twenty four hours later there was more 10k action in the Brewood Woggle. Luke Maskew took the win coming home in 34.22, Paul Dean finished 3rd in 38.18, Veronika Foster was 41st overall in 50.06 taking 3rd F40 and Jo Richards was 77th in 58.33.

There was a huge presence from the club at Sutton Park for the Midland Counties Road Relays where the U13 girls placed 12th in 51.25 with Biba Guest running 16.17, Chloe Cashmore-Jones 15.48, and Anaiya Patel ran 19.20. The U15 boys placed 4th in 39.12 with Theo Ulfig running 12.49, Rocco Hawley 12.59 and Harry Monkton 13.24. The club also fielded an incomplete team in Jonathan Yang who clocked 12.45 and Nahum Worrall who ran 14.49. The U15 girls were 27th in 51.56 with Kiki Guest clocking 16.12, Maya Rosa Jelic Ramesh recording 17.21 and Alice Cattell 18.23. The U17 mens team bagged a bronze medal chasing home Leamington C&AC and North Somerset AC recording a time of 37.11 with Sam Thursfield taking the first leg in 12.27, Fred Jones running second in 12.32 and Jack Stockton bringing the team home with 12.12. The senior mens team initially finished 18th which would have been enough to qualify for the National Road Relays and we were actually emailed an invitation to enter but were disqualified due to an admin error, Jack Bonser had run 18.05, James Neilson 17.47, Steve Newman 19.15, Louie Lambeth 18.35, Ryan Hodgkiss 17.56 and Jon Hart 17.19. After some late drop outs Joe Marples was the only B team runner clocking 20.18. The masters A team finished in 10th in 2.04.19 with Derrick Milligan running 19.33, Ashley Atkinson 19.49, Tony Cheema 21.29, Jay Patel 21.37, Paul Rogers 21.18 and Ben Pilsbury 20.33. An incomplete B team was only one short after a late reshuffle due to injury, with Garry Palmer running 22.17, Paul Marson 20.46 after asking to be dropped to the B team because of illness, Dave Norman 24.01, Rob Edwards 25.08 and Andy Dyall 23.44. The ladies team included a couple making their senior debuts and finished 32nd in 1.33.17 with Isabelle Price running the first leg in a rapid 19.07 to place the team 6th, Harriet Evans clocked 25.55, Megan White 21.59 and Veronika Foster 26.16.

The club hosted their own David Coleman Mile at Aldersley with the trophies being carried off by James Neilson and Megan White. The results of this event and photos are elsewhere on the club Facebook page.

Finally, there was also another edition of the Black Country Hammerfest at Telford at the weekend but there are no results at present, we will revisit this at a later date.
