We’ll start this week’s update by catching up on a few things from last week, and it’s worth the wait as we will start with a win for Jonny Morris in the Burton 10k. Jonny made light work of a course that their website claims is renowned for being undulating, crossing the line in a time of 33,26, over a minute clear of the runner up.
Rocco Hawley placed 2nd in the 3000 on the track in the Birchfield Closed Invitational Meeting at Alexander Stadium, a Euro Champs tester, stopping the clock in 9.32.41.
There was some action in the Shropshire hills in the Ragleth Inn fell race, a 4.4k race with 390 metres of ascent for the adults. In the junior race Eli Hay placed 3rd in the U10B category and Amber Hay was 1st in the U12G race. In the Senior race Paul Dean placed 28th in 34.24 and Craig Smith was 75th in 51.25.
Into this week there was some European Championships based action in the Unity 5k in Birmingham on Sunday, following on from the championships marathon the course covering the finishing lap of the 26.2-mile course making the most of the superb support with the Swiss, French, Dutch and Swedes mixing with the local crowd to cheer the runners home. Our new signing Henry Orton was first back for the club in a rapid 17.51 coming back strong after a period of absence, Dave Norman crossed the line in 21.11 to take 274th place, and Craig Smith finished in 22.21 in 367th place.
Louise Hackett placed 2nd lady and 95th overall in the Ellesmere Port 5k in 17.49.
And we’ll bookend this week’s update with another win for Jonny Morris, this time in the Race the Train race in Tywyn, following the route of the Talyllyn Railway and aiming to get back to the finish before the train on an out and back 14-mile course. Jonny did it with plenty to spare stopping the clock in a superb 1,25.29, over three minutes ahead of the 2nd placed finisher and miles clear of Ivor the Engine.
