We’ll start this week’s round up with some very big news that you may have seen elsewhere, Isobelle Jones won a bronze medal at the European U20 Championships, that’s so massive that I’ll say it again, and say it in capitals, ISOBELLE JONES WON A BRONZE MEDAL AT THE EUROPEAN U20 CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Racing over 1500 Isobelle made very efficient progress by qualifying in 2nd place in her heat in a time of 4.21.60 and then lined up for Saturday’s final in Finland with every chance of a medal. With the cameras focused on the winner, GB’s Lyla Belshaw, you could see Isobelle crossing the line in 3rd place behind her, a look of shock spread across her face. She came home with not only a bronze medal to show for her amazing efforts but a new PB of 4.16.18.
It’s been a tough year for the whole family, and this is a great reward for all the hard work she has put in and the focus she has shown when things could have come unstuck. I think it’s fair to say that everyone at the club is immensely proud of her and wish her all the best as she heads to the US to further her athletic pursuits.
Away from the limelight there was more marathon action in the Isle of Man at the weekend where Dave Joynson and Gill Mitchell racked up another marathon. Dave won his age group in a time of 3.31.34 to take 23rd place overall, Gill finished in 99thplace and 2nd F55 in 6.13.56.
There was some action over the half marathon distance in Solihull where Jo Lane finished in 1.48.11 to take 424th place and 2nd F50.
There was some action on the track in the England Athletics Age Group Championships for U15 and U17s Birmingham where Samantha Agomoh was 2nd over 100 in the U15W race clocking 12.27. Samantha then ran 12.19 for 2nd place in the semi-final and then ran 12.23 for 7th place in the final. Michelle Okafor placed 8th in her heat over 100 stopping the clock in 13.21.
We were back on the Shropshire fells again on Wednesday for the Ragleth Inn race over 4.4k with 390 metres of total ascent where Paul Dean placed 30th in 32,23.
And Paul Marson took part in race 4 of the Worcestershire Midweek Series, the final race of the set was akin to a fell race at Client. Advertised as the Client 10k the details actually say it’s an 8k race over undulating paths and bridleways, whatever the distance Paul’s time of 35.54 placed him 13th overall.
