Weekly update 15th September 2023

There was more track action at the tail end of the season for athletes from the club with a couple of open meeting at the Telford Games, and then at Nuneaton, the geography and the convenience meant they were like a club fixture, possibly better attended than a club fixture, with large numbers competing.

La-Taunya Samuels ran 12.61 in the 100 U20W for 2nd place, Freya Hooper clocked 13.39 for 3rd and Rowan Condon was 8th in 14.74 in the 100 U17W. Gabriella Okafor was 6th in 14.12 in the 100 U15W, in the 100 U17W, having run 14.24 for 4th in her heat. Thillana Owen was 2nd in 13.90 and Grace Oluwajobi was 7th in 15.18 in the 100 U13W. Michelle Okafor was 1st in heat one of the U13W in 13.76, with Grace Oluwajobi placing 3rd in 14.87. Thillana Owen was 2nd in 14.03 in heat two.

Joshua Welford was 1st in 22.50 in the 200 SM. La-Taunya Samuels was 1st in 26.38 in the 200 SW, Freya Hooper was 3rd in 27.87 in the 200 U17W with Freya Condon coming 8th in 29,85. Gabriella Okafor placed 6th in 31.3 in the 200 U15W h1, with Michelle Okafor placing 2nd in 28.73 in the 200 U13W with Thillana Owen coming 6th in 33.92, with Michelle placing 1st in 28.55 and Thialla 2nd in 29.34 in the same heat. Clara Butler-Montero was 5th in 32.88.

Psalm Roberts-Nash won the 400 SM in 48.54 breaking a Telford Games record that has stood for 22 years, Josh Welford chased him home in 2nd in 49.41, with Tom Pryor placing 3rd in 54.49. La-Taunya Samuels was 2nd in 61.57 over 400.

Chloe Cashmore-Jones was 6th in the 600 U11W. Clare Butler-Montero was 3rd in 2.46.61 in the 800 U13W with Alice Cattell coming 6th in 3.02.61. Gracie Billet was 5th in 4.43.60 in the 1200 U13X, Charlotte Higgins was 3rd in 13.51 in the 80 hurdles U17W. Alice Cattel was 9th in the U15X high jump clearing 1.20. Aisha Abdullah was 4th with a leap of 4.13 in the U15W long jump.

Dave Russell won the M70 shot with a throw of 7.52. Aisha Abdullah won the U15W shot throwing 9.52, Aisha was 5th with 15.12 in the discus. Amelia Hancock was 3rd in the SX discus with 23.16, also winning the hammer with 38.21, where Dave Russell was 3rd with 20.93. Vienos Abdulla won the U17W hammer with 38.35.

There was another open meeting a day later at Nuneaton where another good number of athletes were in attendance. Megan White was 3rd in her 1500 heat in 4.59.69. Georgina Neilson was 3rd in the hammer throwing 34.75. Josh Welford won his 200 heat in 22.19, Tammy Saunders was 2nd over 200 in 24.89. Miguel Francis won his heat over 100 in 10.40, the fastest of the day, Tammy Saunders had another runner up spot over 100 with 12.10. For some reason the high jump results are still pending but I understand that Finley Powell jumped 1.85 after a long and tiring season.

On the road there was a 38.55 finish for 28th place in the hilly Lichfield 10k, Emily Simmonds was 141st in 48.10. I apologise if anyone else raced at Lichfield and I’ve missed them, but the results are a long list of 700 names with no clubs added. Jon Hart raced in the KMF Newcastle 10k which incorporated the NSRRA, Staffordshire and Midlands Championships ensuring a quality field, clocking a rapid 35.42 for 7th place. Also over 10k Mark Perry took part in the Tibberton Trot placing 53rd in 52.05 claiming a medal that looked like a big chunk of chocolate.

And in the Great North Run there was a 1.32.14 finish for Phil Evans placing 1024th, Tom Harty ran 1.40.11 for 2295th, Rob Carrington 1.57.21 for 8437th and Chelsea Blanchard finished in 3.35.38 in 42351st.

Finally, I do know that Julia Condon and Imogen Harley took part in the Cannock Chase Trail Runners Relays but no matter what I put into the internet search it comes up with nothing useful. Whatever they did, well done.
