Weekly update 17th March 2023

The long cross country season came to a close for athletes from Wolverhampton & Bilston AC as runners bagged county honours wearing the green with the white hooped vest of Staffordshire in the Inter Counties Cross Country at a muddy Prestwold Hall In Leicestershire. 

Louie Lambeth was the only representative in the senior men’s race coming home in 197th place in 43.55. Zakari Sandhu-Whitton was 223rd in the U17 men’s race in 25.17. Scarlett Williams placed 205th in 26.13 in the U17 ladies race.

There were three representatives from the club in the U15 boys race with Oscar Davies coming home in 36th in 15.14, Jack Stockton was 153rd in 16.15 and Sam Thursfield was 208th in 16.44 contributing to the Staffs team placing 31st. In the U15 girls race Megan White was 166th in 18.52 and Zena Asbury was 238th in 20.02.

In the U13 boys race Sam Ball placed 30th in 12.55 and Will Hughes was 105th in 13.38 and in the U13 girls race Grace Hendy crossed the line in 164th position in 15.13 and Lucy Horton was 247th in 16.08.

Twenty four hours later Zena Asbury was at it again swapping the Leicestershire mud bath for the clean boards at Sport City in Manchester for an indoor U17s 600 metres placing 4th in her race in a PB of 1.54.68. Greg Asbury also had a bash on the boards racing over 300 metres crossing the line in 41.47 for 4th place and a PB as an M45.

Elsewhere Brett Robinson raced on the tarmac in the Shrewsbury 10k placing 106th in 43.20. And a small group travelled north to compete in a windy Stafford Half Marathon with Pravesh Patel leading the club home in 11th place in 1.16.46, Alex McVie was 40th in 1.23.16, Dave Norman stopped the clock in 1.30.15 in 137thplace, Mark Illidge finished in 1.35.54 for 205th, Rob Edwards clocked 1.38.40 in 271st, Paul Horton was 733rd in 1.54.26 and Lesley Stamps finished in 2.05.46 to take 1089th position.
