Weekly update 1st December 2023

Athletes from the club travelled far and wide at the weekend to get some racing in before another round of cross country action, lets focus first on the cross country action away from the league races in a few days time as the vest was out in force at the British Athletics Cross Challenge at Sefton Park in Liverpool.

The Wolves colours were at the sharp end as Seb Palmer crossed the line in 1st place in a time of 6.58 in the U11s age group leading home a field of 206 athletes. Lilla Pearce was 2nd out of 198 in the U11 girls race coming home in 7.07. Rocco Hawley placed 6th in 10.50 and Theo Ulfig was 35th in 11.36 in the U13 boys race. Jack Stockton placed 27th in the U15 boys event in 10.12, and Isobelle Jones was 6th in 15.42 in the U17 ladies race.

Later on the same day, and in far more sunnier climes, a group from the club took part in the Benidorm 10k, a Saturday evening race along the sea front that they would no doubt frequent after the event. Greg Asbury was first home for the club in 86th place in 38.07, Dave Newport was 110th in 39.12, Lucy Calrow was 128th in 39.51, Adam Cotterill was 214th, Phil Evans 215th and Simon Calrow 216th all in the same time of 43.33. Keith Carter was 321st in 46.39, Lee Partridge 345th in 47.05, Anthony Pinson 371st in 37.33, Emily Simmonds 384th in 47.44, Craig Buggins 487th in 50.02, Jo Lane 575th in 51.46, Vanessa Landreau 626th in 52.45, Pat Cummings 667th in 53.25, Clive Barrett 703rd in 54.08, Carl Morgan 715th in 54.18, Duncan Davies a place behind in the same time, Anna Moore 795th in 55.40 and Russ Blair 820th in 56.10. I apologise in advance if I have missed anyone, the results aren’t the easiest to navigate and there is no possibility of filtering on clubs and with 120 pages of “classificiones” I may have failed to spot someone.

Rather than taking on something exotic this week our marathon duo of Dave Joynson and Gillian Mitchell were in Cheshire for the Running GP Oulton Park Marathon. Dave was 1st M60 and 12th overall in 3.10.40 and Gill was 4th in her age group and 125h in 5.22.52.

And just down the road in the Tuff Un, formerly the Suicide 6, Rich Amor-Wilkes flogged himself around the parks of Baggeridge and Himley, contending with mud, water and general unpleasantness to finish in 24th place in 45.29. There were also a large bunch taking part in a Big Bird charity.
