Weekly update – 28th August 2025

It’s another quiet one this week and we had the potential for it to be another Greg Asbury special, more of that later. We’ll start though with some track action as there were a handful of end of season open meetings giving athletes an opportunity to finish the season on a high.

First, we’ll go to Northamptonshire for the Rugby Summer Open where Tom Pryor finished in 4th place over 800 in 2.03.65. Then we can head off to Stourport for the KSAC Mike Lambert Open where Samuel Worrall raced over 600 clocking 2.08.67 in the U11s, Nahum Worrall was 2nd over 800 in 2.22.84, and it was a family affair as Gary Worrall stopped the clock in 2.11.02 for 4th place over the same distance. Thillana Owen was 3rd in 13.75 over 100, Chyloh McKenzie was 3rd in 11.94, with Michael Deans placing 6th in 12.18 in the same race over 100. Chyloh also claimed a 1st place in round 2 with 11.63, with Michael bagging the runners up spot in 11.92. Over 400 there was a 4th place finish for James Crust in 52.45. Thillana also claimed a win over 200 in 28.68. In the throws there was a runners-up spot for Ethan Kendrick in the hammer with 57.53, Georgina Neilson placed 6th with a PB of 39.36.

And now for the Greg Asbury paragraph, as Greg competed in the British Masters Pentathlon Championships at Nuneaton, coming away with a very impressive card. A 4.68 leap in the long jump, a 24.41metres throw in the javelin, a 25.47 time over 200 metres, a throw of 18.86 in the discus and finishing with a 1500 in 4.59.40 to rack up 2680 points and pocket a British Master silver medal and a Midlands Masters gold.

Finally, there was some action on the tarmac in Shropshire in midweek in the Ellerdine Effort 5k where Ben Foster was first home for the club in a rapid 16.58 for 14th place, Derrick Milligan was 17th in 17.14, Tony Cheema placed 32nd in 18.58, Dave Norman clocked 20.30 for 64th place, Mark Judge was 66th in 20.35, Stu Whithouse ran 21.17 for 72nd place, Darren Owen-Jones was 79th in 21.59 and Andy Horton placed 88th in 22.42 carrying a niggle around the course.
