Weekly update 3rd May 2023

This week’s action started in midweek again with the return of the ever-popular Sexarathon Series hosted by Telford AC. The first installment was a 5 miler at Lilleshall, a nice 2 ½ miles of predominantly downhill followed by the thick end of 2 ½ miles uphill to the finish. The club were out in force with Jon Hart leading them home in 13th in 28.19 and claiming 1st in his age group, Dylan Illidge was 20th in 28.52, Dan Brazier was 37th in 30.17, Paul Dean was 45th in 30.51, Lucy Calrow was 48th in 30.59 bagging 4th lady, Chris Apperley was 52nd in 31.18, Dave Newport 53rd in 31.19, Russ Newman placed 63rd in 32.24, Garry Palmer 66th in 32.41, Simon Calrow 73rd in 33.04 and 2nd in his age group, Brett Robinson 77th in 33.16, Derrick Milligan 86th in 33.45, Pete Hood was 3rd V60 in 88th overall in 33.48, Holly Baddeley was 90th in 33.52, Dave Norman was a place behind on the results but a second ahead on the chip timing, Keith Carter was 94th in 34.07, Adam Cotterill 108th in 34.59, Rob Edwards 117th in 35.23, Craig Buggins 165th in 38.21, Mark Perry 191st in 40.05, Jo Lane 202nd in 40.41.

Forty-eight hours later the action was a little bit further into the North East around the closed country lanes for the fast Mid Cheshire 5k. A small group travelled in hope of achieving some fast times and didn’t return disappointed, the fast first mile got the legs turning over quickly and the remainder just being short enough to be able to hold it together. Pravesh Patel led the group home in 79th place in 15.26, Amelia Samuels was 2ndlady across the line in 15.53 placing 132nd overall, Louie Lambeth was 142nd in 15.58, Zakari Sandhu-Whitton was 171st in 16.05, Sam Thursfield was 184th in 16.13, Ben Foster placed 200th in 16.23, Beth Tabor was 337thand 39th lady in 17.45, Ashley Atkinson was 390th in 18.26, Dave Norman finished in 19.23 in 481st and Sabrina Thomas was 513th in 19.56.

It was on to Telford on Sunday for Upper Age Group Midlands Region, Division North/East 1C meeting at Oakengates Leisure Centre where the club placed 1stahead of Tipton Harriers, Cannock & Stafford, Telford AC and Halesowen in a double header meeting. 

In the U20s results Eugene Kyei placed 3rd in the 100m A race in 11.9, with Henry Boakye placing 2nd in 12.00 in the B race. Henry then raced over 200m placing 3rd in the A race in 24.5, with Sebastian Duroe running in the B race coming 3rd in 28.0. Yaw Osei-Asabere claimed a win in the 400m A race in 53.7 with Connor Blincoe placing 2nd in 59.5 in the B race. James Neilson ran a PB of 4.22.9 to take the runners up spot in the 1500m A race with Joe St Quinton finishing 2nd in the B race in 5.00.6. In the 4 x 100 a team of Nery Boakye, Sebastian Duroe, Yaw Osei-Asabere and Eugene Kyei placed 3rd in 47.5. Conor Blincoe, Henry, Yaw and Maliq Morris placed 1st in the 4 x 400m in 3.42.7.

La-Taunya Samuels placed 2nd in 12.8 in the 100m A race with Chan Makah coming 2nd in the B race in 15.1. Lattie also placed 2nd in the 200m in 26.5. Amelia Hancock placed 4th in the U20 shot with a throw of 6.29, placed 1st in the discus with a 24.24 throw, placed 1st in the hammer with a 37.40 throw and 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 9.94 metres. She also ran the 3rd leg of the 4 x 100 relay joining Chan Makah, Harriet Evans and La-Taunya Samuels to place 2nd in 59.5.

In the U17s competition, the second bit of the double header, William Parton placed 3rd in the 100m A race in 11.9 and Elliot Bowen placed 1st in 11.9 in the B race. They then swapped for the 200m with Elliot racing 24.1 in the A race for 2nd place and William winning the B race in 24.4. Maliq Morris raced over 400m in the A race winning in a time of 57.5 with James Crust winning the B race in 57.9. James had a bash at the long jump placing 2nd with 4.46 in the A competition. Finley Powell placed 1st in the A discus with a throw of 18.52. Finley was 2ndin the javelin with 23.11. James, Maliq, William and Elliot won the 4 x 100 with 47.1.

Abigail Osamudiamen won the 100m A race in 13.1 and Freya Hooper claimed the win the B race in 13.5, Abigail also bagged the win in the 200m in 26.7, with Rowan Condon placing 3rd in the B race in 30.3. Freya Hooper was 2nd in the 300m A race in 46.6, Madison Farley won the B race in 44.2, Madison ran in the 800m A race placing 3rd in 2.33.1, Jessica Yang won the B race in 2.37.7. Megan White claimed victory in the 1500m A race in 5.10.9 with Zena Asbury winning the B race in 5.27.0. Charlotte Higgins won the 80m hurdles A in 13.5 with Charlotte Bradley winning the B race in 14.3. Abigail Osamudiamen won the long jump in 9.13 A competition with Rowan Condon winning the B comp with a leap of 3.77. Jessica Yang won the triple jump with 9.30. Georgina Neilson was 3rd in the shot with 4.97, Charlotte Higgins won the A discuss with 16.42 and Charlotte Bradley won the B discus with 12.98. Georgina Neilson won the hammer with 34.67. Freya, Abigail, Rowan and Charlotte Higgins won the 4 x 100 with 54.4 and there was another win in the 4 x 300 relay for Millie Williams, Jess, Megan and Madison in 3.11.3.

Isobelle Jones pulled on an England vest to compete in the Cardiff 5k and did the vest proud finishing 1st U17 and 2nd female and 93rd overall in 16.06. And the marathon journey continues for our epic duo, this time in Belfast where Dave Joynson finished in 3.12.47 to take 250th place and Gillian Mitchell placed 2761st in 4.54.31.
