Weekly update – 4th September 2025

We’ll start the update this week with some action in the capital where Serge Guy took part in the Last Friday 5k in Hyde Park, organised by one of the great London clubs, Serpentine AC, this is a race that traces its history back to the 1980s as a handicap race and was revived in 1992 as a straight 5k over two laps. In a race where the top 9 finishers all banged out sub 17 minute times on a Friday lunchtime, Serge placed 61st overall and ducked under 20 minutes for the first time clocking 19.54.

There was more fast 5k action in the Mid Cheshire 5k later that evening where Jon Hart was the first back for the club in 15.16, Jack Stockton was 75th in 15.18, James Neilson was 100th in 15.31, Dan Turner ran 15.59 to take 144th place, Rocco Hawley was 166th on 16.03, Louie Lambeth was 208th in 16.24, Steve Newman placed 270th in 16.41, Theo Ulfig 271st in 1646, Alex Kelly ran 17.01 in 312th, Tom Pryor 17.25 for 373rd Joe Marples 18.19 for 550th, Sabrina Thomas clocked 19.39 for 709th, Darren Owen-Jones 19.49 in 743rd and Maria Calleia was 883rd in 21.57.

There was action on the track at Mansfield where the senior team brought their season to a conclusion, the club finishing the in an excellent 3rd place in the league behind City of Stoke and Sutton in Ashfield AC, helped by bagging a maximum number of points from supplying officials.

Chyloh McKenzie was 1st in the 100 A in 11.2, Theo Ricketts won the 100 B/C in 11.6 and Nacardo Lewis made it 3 wins at the distance bagging the second 100 B/C race in 12.0. Chyloh also claimed the win in the 200 A in 22.9, with Theo taking the runners up spot in the B/C race in 23.0 and Eugene Kyei winning the B/C race 2 in 24.5. There was a 2nd place finish for Roshane Gordon in the 400 A in 51.5, James Crust won the B/C race in 53.3. Over 800 Daniel Malone placed 4th in 2.15.3 and also finished in 5thplace over 1500 in 4.45.1. The mens team won the 4 x 100 in 46.6 and placed 2nd in the 4 x 400 in 3.52.7. In the field events Theo Nichols placed 4th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.40, and also took 4th in the long jump leaping to a distance of 5.40 metres. Nacardo Lewis was 2nd in the B/C long jump with 5.36, and Joe Deans was 6th with 3.19. In the throws there was a 5th place for Tegjot Singh in the shot with 9.22, Joe was 4th in the B event with 7.18. Tegjot was 4th in the discus with 27.41, Matt Sutton won the B event with a throw of 24.65. Matt was 2nd in the hammer with 53.25, the first and second place competitors throwing almost double that of the 3rd place athlete. Ethan Kendrick won the B string hammer by a comfortable distance with a throw of 50.83. Tegjot was 3rd in the javelin with 39.66 and Joe was 3rd in the B javelin with 16.76.

In the ladies side of the competition there was a win for Tamara Saunders in the 100 A with 12.7, Kayliah Henry won the B race with 13.7, and Gabriella Okafor was 2nd in the B/C race 2 in 14.0. Gabriella also placed 6th in the 200 A in 29.4, with Elissa Rukweza placing second in the B race in 28.8. Over 400 there was a 5th place finish for Nteokan Egopija in 74.7. Millie Williams placed 3rd over 800 coming home in 2.25.1 in the A race, Ronnie Read was 2nd in the B race in 2.35.5, and in the 1500 there was a win for Megan White in the A race in 4.58.0 and Zoleka Mzuku made it a double by winning the B race in 4.59.8, where Louise Webster was 6th in 6.02.6. The ladies won the 4 x 100 in 52.5 and were 2nd in the 4 x 400 in 4.14.8. In the jumps Elissa Rukweza placed 5th in the long jump with a leap of 4.27, Amelia Hancock was 8th in the B comp with 2.54. And in the throws there was a 2nd place for Louise Webster in the shot with a throw of 9.12, Amelia was 8th in the B event with 5.82. Louise was 6th in the discus with 16.02, Amelia placing 5th in the B comp with 17.85. Louise was runner up in the hammer throwing 37.33, Amelia also bagged the runners up spot in the B event with 34.83, and Louise and Amelia were 3rd with 23.85 and 6th with 12.14 in the A & B javelin respectively.

We were back on the roads in midweek, well roads, tracks a trails, in the final race of the Sexarathon Series, the 5k Harper Scarper. James Neilson brought the club home in 4th place in 16.09, Dan Turner was 10th in 16.55, Dylan Illidge was listed as Wolves & Bilston although he has transferred to Tipton Harriers since the series begin and finished in 13th in 17.02, Paul Deal was 15th in 17.10, Alex Kelly placed 22nd in 17.23, Steve Newman 30th in 17.51, Zak Sandhu-Whitton 33rd in 17.55, Paul Marson 35th in 17.58, Carl James 57th and 2nd M35 in 19.03, Sundeep Sunar a place and 2 seconds behind in 58th and 19.05 taking 3rd M35, Dave Newport was 63rd in 19.22, Phil Evans 78th and 2nd M60 in 19.50, Simon Calrow 108th and 2nd M65 in 20.44, Rob J Edwards was breathing down his neck in 20.45 in 109th, Brett Robinson placed 116th in 21.00, Mark Judge 121st in 21.08, Mark Illidge 131st in 21.25, Sean Rowe 145th in 21.51, Rob Edwards 148th in 21.52, Stu Whitehouse was 164th in 22.20, Ian Thursfield 193rd in 23.07, Mark Perry 206th in 23.36 and Craig Buggins was 308th stopping the clock in 27.11. In the series the final tally placed Dan Turner 3rd overall, Dylan Illidge was 1st senior, Alex Kelly was 3rd senior, Dave Newport was 2nd M35 and Paul Marson was 1st M40.
