There was indoor and outdoor action at this week for athletes from Wolverhampton & Bilston AC.
We’ll start this week’s round up inside in Loughborough where Aupromeyo Mukherjee competed in the Loughborough Open meeting placing 2nd in his heat in a new pb of 7.54 secs. This was good enough the place him 36th overall out of 78 competitors across all age groups, but fastest U15 on the day. He now ranks 21st in the UK and 1st in the current West Midlands rankings. Great reward for the hard work he has put in and the efforts made by his coach to get him to this point, also many thanks to Lewis Barlow for stepping in on behalf on his coach on the day and taking charge of him.
There was more indoor action in Sheffield at the Run, Jump, Throw series on same day where Psalm Roberts-Nash placed 2nd in heat 2 of the 400m in an indoor season best of 49.07 seconds.
There was some midweek action in Sheffield at the Steel Cup where La-Taunya Samuels, representing the University of Birmingham, placed 3rd in her 60m heat in a time of 8.05 and recorded an indoor best of 26.49 over 200m, again placing 3rd in her heat.
Athletes were out in the country in Cardiff for the BUCS championships where Beth Rawlinson recorded an impressive 13th place in the women’s short race over 5.59k in 19.58 representing Oxford, and it was a home game for Cardiff student Beth Dyall who placed 127th in the women’s long race covering the 8.2k distance in 34.49. I apologise if I’ve missed anyone here, I’ve trawled through pages of results looking for familar names as everything is based on universities, I’m sorry if I’ve missed anyone but I don’t think I have.
And there was a win for Dan Maskew over the country in the Stourbridge Stagger, a 10 mile off road race across fields and bridlepaths, through muddy gulleys and rugged countryside. His time of 59.33 was a remarkable effort knowing how hard the course can be and was almost a minute ahead of the runner up. Rob Edwards also pulled on the vest finishing in 105th place in a time of 1.24.00.
Finally, just a quick word to promote the circuits class that Duncan Davies hosts with his daughter Chloe on behalf of the club. This takes place at Aldersley Stadium on a Monday evening at 6.30pm and for the small charge of £2.00 you will have the opportunity to spend a hard hour working on overall fitness and conditioning. I know a few of our athletes already take advantage of Duncan’s expertise here and see the benefit of his classes. Age, level of fitness and ability are all considered so don’t think you will be out of your depth. There are a few gaps where we can accommodate a few more so please get in touch with Duncan or just be in reception on a Monday evening ready to start at 6.30pm if you’re interested.
