Weekly Update 9th February 2023

It was a quiet time for athletes from Wolverhampton & Bilston AC, the calm before the cross country storm, but seven days before another round of cross country fixtures there were still opportunities for club members to race even though the opportunities were a little sparse.

There were a couple of representatives running in the BUCS Cross Country Championships at Pembrey Park in South Wales. Louise Hackett placed and excellent 3rdin the Senior Women’s event in a time of 21.59, also bagging 1st U20. Ella Semple ran well to place 25th in 23.09.

Club athletes were again amongst the medal at the Staffordshire Schools Cross Country Championships at Betley Farm. In the Year 8/9 Junior Boys race Sam Thursfield placed 1st in 13.24 and William Bassford was 15th in 15.27. In the Year 10/11 Intermediate Boys race there was a win for Owen Ulfig in 18.24 and in the Intermediate Girls race there was a 2nd place finish for Scarlett Williams in 14.53 and a 9th place finish for Ruby Buggins in 17.11. In the Seniors Boys race there was another 1st place for Tyler Hawley who crossed the line to claim victory stopping the clock in 24.29.

Just down the road in the Stourbridge Stagger, a tough multi terrain 10 miler, there was a 51st place finish for Pete Hood, and 2nd MV60, in 1.20.38 and Rob Edwards placed 86th in 1.25.31. And while a handful were battling conditions outdoors William Parton was competing indoors at the Loughborough Open Meeting, William raced twice over 60m recording 7.58 for 2nd place in one race and recording a PB of 7.50 to place 4th in another.

The results for both the Staffs Schools and the Stourbridge Stagger don’t show club details so I apologise if I’ve missed anyone, that certainly wasn’t intended and at present there are no Shropshire Schools Cross Country results available.
