The younger members of the club got their cross country season underway with the first fixture of their season at Newbold Revel, Loughborough. Seb Palmer made his club debut in the U11s boy’s event, and it was almost a winning one as the Wolves athlete finished runner up in 5.41, only 6 seconds behind the winner. Harry Dornan was 12th in 6.03, Jonathan Yang 15th in 6.05, Isaac Danbury 16th in 6.06, Theo Ulfig 22nd in 6.19, Thomas Buggins 54th in 6.52, Caleb Pitt 86th in 7.51 and Frankie Mason was 87th in 7.56 to place the team in 2nd behind Royal Sutton Coldfield AC. In the U11s girls Clara Butler Montero was first back for the club in 14th place in 6.29, Alice Cattell clocked 6.33 in 19th place, Gracie Billett finished in 6.47, Erin Mia Nash in 6.57 for 36th place, Amiyah Pal was 57th in 7.13, to place the club in 3rd position.
There was a win for Fred Jones in the U13 boys race crossing the line in 8.45, Sam Ball was 3rd in 9.14, Oscar Davis 4th in 9.21 and Sam Thursfield 6th in 9.26. Jayden Burdish was 13th in 9.52, William Bassford 16th in 10.15, Leon Asbury 21st in 10.26, William Hughes 35th in 10.59, Aryan Pal 49th in 11.32, Jack Stockton 56th in 11.56 and Seth Carrington finished in 12.37 for 66th position with the club dominating the race to back up their National Road Relays gold with a victory here. Grace Hendy was first over the line for the club in the U13s girl’s race in 3rd place just holding off Ronni Read who finished a place and 4 seconds adrift. Lucy Horton was 18th in 8.09, Tabitha Rollins 49th in 9.17, Belle Willoughby 55th in 9.50 and Ruby Jackson finished 56th and 2 seconds behind in 9.52 bringing to club home in 3rd place.
There was another win for the club with Owen Ulfig crossing the line first in the boys U15s race in a time of 10.28, Theo Palmer was 14th in 11.17, Matthew Bassford 54th in 13.15, Jared Richards 59th in 13.15 with the club placing 7th just lacking that 5th counter. There was a win double in the U15 girls race with Isobelle Jones claiming victory in 11.09, Rosie Kind chased her club mate home in the runners up spot in 11.21, Ava Kind was 5th in 11.58, Madison Farley 8th in 12.14, Megan White 11th in 12.23, Millie Williams 15th in 12.31, Ruby Buggins 25th in 12.45, Jessica Yang 31st in 13.06, Scarlett Willoughby 39th in 13.24 and Bethany Bennett was 59th in 14.29 with the club topping the pile in 1st place.
With only two runners in the U17 men’s race it was always going to be a struggle, the club finished in 9th position with James Neilson coming 10th in 18.47 and Dylan Illidge crossing the line in 19.46 in 18th place. And there was another win for the club in the U17 women’s race with Isabelle Price claiming victory in 15.41, Beth Rawlinson was 9th in 16.59 but with only two representatives the club placed 11th.
The overall results placed the club in a handy 4th place behind Rugby & Northampton AC, Stratford upon Avon AC and RSCAC.
Elsewhere Dave Joynson continued his marathon adventure proving he had recovered from last week’s exploits in Manchester with a PB of 3.05.12 in the Bedford Autodrome Marathon, this was enough to place him 9th overall and win the M55 age group. A couple of runners travelled to the south coast to race the Great South Run, a 10 mile race around Portsmouth with a finish into a headwind along the coast, Lee Pearson claimed club bragging rights finishing in 129th in 1.02.00 with Ben Pilsbury in 353rd in 1.07.18. Team Creamer journeyed to Derby for a 10k and were amongst the prizes with Hannah Creamer claiming 2nd lady and 86th overall finishing in a time of 41.10 and Carrie Creamer winning her age category and placing 254th in 46.06. Over the same distance Jason Kinsey ran the Oswestry 10k finishing in 54.13 to place 283rd and Miles Pearce raced the Cambridge Half Marathon finishing in 1.52.57.
