Wolves are staying up!

There will be one team from Wolverhampton in the Premier League thanks to the valiant efforts of the team at Perry Park on Saturday.

We needed to have a better result than Bournville who were 47 points behind us to stay in the league. We were boosted by our biggest turn out as we took 35 runners including our new star Ross Jones. In the end we beat Bournville by 50 points and missed the drop by 97 points. Our counters were Ross 10th, Smithy 35th, Paul Hammond 47th, Ian Grindley 62nd, Tom Warrener 63rd and Dan Brazier 72nd. The full results are on www.birminghamccleague.co.uk

Whilst technically we would have just avoided the drop without Ross, he provided a great of confidence to the team with many runners having their best runs of the season. Ross is a great acquisition to our club, whilst being very modest and unassuming he is a superb athlete who works levitra cheap online hard at his running; he will be a great inspiration to the adults and youngster alike.

Special mention to our “Gang of Four” Dave Smith, Ian Grindley, Dan Brazier and Paul Hammond, they counted in every race. Smithy in particular has had a great season and is rejuvenated since celebrating a landmark 45th birthday at the end of last year. We were backed up by Brian Wright, Mark Moore, Steve Cunningham, Matt Richards and Tom Warrener who were counters during the season.  Next year our star junior Chris Brookes should also start counting for us. Many of the other clubs  have strong juniors, yesterday the race was won by Jack Gray from BRAT who is a junior and there were three other youngsters in the top ten.

Finally thanks to manager Paul Tabor for managing the team superbly, team captain Dan Brazier for all his optimism and positive thinking and Duncan Davies for his inspiration.
