Weekly Update – 29th April 2026

As everyone will surely know it was London Marathon weekend and there were plenty of W&B vests on the championship start on Blackheath Common chasing Sebastian Sawe and his sub 2 hour time to the finish on The Mall. First across the line for the club in 298th place was Jon Hart, stopping the clock in 2.32.47, Luke Maskew was 348th in 2.34.06, Jonny Morris clocked 2.35.29 to take 407th place, Dan Turner put in a sterling effort having struggled from 22 miles and ended up on a drip after recording 2.51.48 for 1855th, Andy Jarvis was a little quicker than in Boston a fortnight ago in 7182nd in 3.20.36, Dave Joynson banged out another incredibly consistent performance clocking 3.31.52, Nicola Willoughby stopped the clock in 5.13.34 in 43580th place, and Hannah Campion was 52122nd in 5.55.40.

As part of the weekend’s events our own Sebatian, this time Palmer, raced in the Mini Marathon over the 2.6k distance on behalf of the West Midlands. Seb finished 175th in the Boys Under 14 category in 8.38. 

There was some alternative marathon action in Stratford where Rob Sannwald-Dunn finished in 3.02.53 in 76th place, Ian Thursfield placed 1093rd in 4.33.02. Chris Staien competed in the half marathon clocking 1.33.32 in 291st place and Katie Staien recoded 1.33.50 to take 300th place and 3rd in her age group if you go off their “net cat pos”. Julia Condon took part in the Clun Valley Half Marathon placing 103rd in 3.27.57.

There was some track action in Allendale, Michigan in the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet where Louise Hackett continued her good early season running 4.39.10 in 10th place.

Closer to home the first meeting of the University of Birmingham Track & Field Series took place where Dequandre Willock placed 3rd clocking 12.50 in the Junior 100 metres, in the men’s 100 there was a 2nd place for Eugene Kyei with a PB of 11.42. Tammy Saunders was 3rd over 200 with 24.71, Leo Watson won his 200 race clocking 22.62 with Roshane Gordon placing 3rd in 23.40 in the same race. Over 800 there was a 7th place finish in a shiny new PB of 2.06.23 for Harry Monkton, Theo Ulfig was 9th in 2.13.57 in the same race, Seb Palmer won his 800 metre race in 2.10.28. Over 3000 Jack Stockton placed 5th in 8.36.49.

And in the Triangular League the club finished 1st on the day with 239 points, from Tipton, Halesowen and DASH. Elijah Enweren was 1st in the U14B 80m hurdles in 14.0. Ocean Schloss clocked 11.5 in the U12G 75 taking 2nd place, Shaylen Walsh was 2nd in the U12G 75 B race in 13.7, there were plenty from the club in the U12G non scoring race where Abigail Evans placed 2nd in 12.4, Isabelle Davies was 3rd in 12.6, Amber Hay was 5th in 13.1, and in a second non scoring 75 metres Elise Tarnawskyj was 2nd in 12.5. there was a win for Farrell Sogbesan in the U12B A race in 11.1, Ezriel Enwerem won the B race in 11.5, Isaac Heinke won one of the N/S races in 11.5, Samual Worral won another N/S race in 11.7, Seth Owen-Stuart won another N/S race with 12.6, with Bertie Dixon placing 2nd in 12.6 and in a final N/S race Joseph Blunt was 1st in 12.1 and Jenson James-Bowen was 2nd in 12.2. Over 50 metres there was a 1st place in the U10G N/S for Naveah Maxwell in 8.3, Harper Williams was 2nd in 8.5, Adeline Aston was 5th in 9.2 and Aiyana Hirons was 6th in 9.4. In the U10B N/S Eli Hay was 3rd in 9.5, and in another N/S race Henry Shaw placed 2nd in 8.6 and Noah Oxley was 3rd in 8.9. Over 100 Isla Birch was 2nd in the U14G race in 16.4, Abigail Wright was 3rd in 18.3. Callum Hamilton was 3rd in the 100 U14B A race in 14.0, Elijah Enwerem was 1st in the U14B B in 13.9. Gabriel Quintyne-Morris was 1st in the U14B N/S in 14.1, Tate-Blu Quintyne-Smith was 2nd in 14.2 and Ryan Lovegrove was 3rd in 14.7. Over 600 there was a win for Noah Oxley in the U10B/G with 2.06.3, Henry Shaw was 2nd in 2.02.1, Aiyana Hirons was 4th and 1st girl with 2.18.6, Eli Hay was 4th girl in 2.30.8, Harper Williams 5th in 2.31.4 and Adeline Aston was 6th in 2.47.0. In the U12G 600 Alba Jones was 1st in 1.47.9, Abigail Evans was 2nd in 1.57.3, Ocean Schloss 3rd in 1.59.3, Isabelle Davies was 5th in 2.12.9. in the U12B race Isaac Heinke was 1st in 1.55.3, Samuel Worrall placed 2nd in 1.58.9, Joseph Blunt 3rd in 2.00.8, Emmanuel Garacho 6th in 2.10.3. Over 800 Martha Harris was 7th in 2.57.9, Isla Birch was 8th in 3.02.7 and Abigail Wright was 9th in 3.06.2 in the U14G 800. In the U14B race there was a 2nd place for Finley Anslow in 2.36.9, Ryan Lovegrove was 5th in 2.46.8 and George Shaw was 7th in 2.48.9. In the relays W&B won the U12G 4 x 50 in 32.6, were 3rd in the U12B race with 37.1, were 2nd in the U14G 4 x 100 in 67.3 and 3 were 1st in the U14B with 54.9.

In the field events Callum Hamilton won the U14B long jump with 4.30, Gabriel Quintyne-Morris was 4th with 3.97. Chloe Cashmore-Jones won the girls competition with 4.17. George Shaw was 3rd in the U14B shot with 6.5 metres, Amber Hay was 6th in the U12G howler with 14.67, Abigail Evans was 9th with 11.95. In the U12B long jump Farrell Sogbesan was 1st with a leap of 3.68, Ezriel Enwerem was 2nd with 3.62, Jenson James-Bowen was 4th with 2.95. Matilda Cosnett won the U12G high jump with 1.00, Shaylen Walsh was 2nd with 0.95 and Elise Tarnawskyj was listed as 3rd with 1.08 in the results (which doesn’t make a lot of sense). In the U12B howler there was a 3rd place for Seth Owen-Stuart with 23.51. In the long jump Matilda Cosnett was 2nd with 3.25 in the U12G event, Amber Hay was 5th with 2.94, Shaylen Walsh was 8th with 2.61. In the boys high jump there was a 1st place for Elijah Enwerem with 1.39 in the U14B, Ezriel Enwerem won the U12B event with 1.20, Gabriel Quintyne-Morris was 3rd in the U14B with 1.15 and Farrel Sogbesan was 3rd in the U12B with 1.00. and in the U14B javelin there was a win for George Shaw with 25.09, Ryan Lovegrove is listed in 4th place with 8.96.

There was another edition of the Black Country Hammerfest in Telford where Ethan Kendrick took 2nd place with a throw of 62.94 metres in the U20s 6kg competition, also throwing 64.09 for a new PB in a later competition. Amelia Hancock threw 35.75 for 1st place in the U23W 4kg event. Veinos Abdullah was 2nd with 37.68 and Georgina Neilson placed 3rd with 37.32 in the U23W A 4kg event and swapped places in the B competition with Georgina throwing 36.80 to win and Veinos recording 36.61 for the runners up spot. Aisha Abdullah won the U18W A 3kg competition with a throw of 47.79 metres, Aisha also recorded 41.74 in the B event taking 3rd spot.

Finally, in the Run With the Wind including Para events meeting in Cardiff, Ethan Muirhead recorded 11.21 for 7th place over 100 metres and was 4th over 200 metres with 22.12.
