Weekly update- 7th May 2026

There was some midweek action for the older brigade from the club in the Midland Veteran Track & Field League in their first fixture at Telford. Nick Price made his league debut clocking 17.5 in the M70 100m taking the maximum points with a 1st place finish. Duncan Davies was 5th in the M60 100m in 16.8, Greg Asbury was 2nd in 13.1 in the M50 100m, Paul Clarke clocked 13.9 to take 3rd place in the M40 category, where Ade Dillon competed as a guest finishing in 15.8. Paul Rogers clocked 13.59.8 to take 2nd place in the M35 2000 walk, Phil Evans was 3rd in the M35 walk with 15.28.0. Piers Butler competed as a guest and clocked 18.38.1. Over 400m Greg Asbury clocked 59.5 in the M35s in 4th place, Paul Clarke clocked 58.4 to take 2nd place in the M40s, Nick Price finished in 82.5 to take 3rd place in the M60s. Over 1500 Tom Isherwood stopped the clock in 4.36.6 to win the M35s race, Dave Norman ran in the M40s and claimed 5th place in 5.52.6 and in the M50s race Paul Rogers placed 4th in 5.23.6. There was a 3rd place finish in a 4 x 200 relay for the team of Asbury, Clarke, Isherwood and Evans in 2.02.2.

In the field events Lee Thornton won the M35 discus with a throw of 38.74, Duncan Davies was 3rd in the M60 shot with 8.76, Paul Rogers was 5th in the M60 high jump with a clearance of 1.00 metre, Greg Asbury flew out to 4.26 in the M50 long jump for 2nd place, Lionel Spittle almost missed the M50 javelin but recorded a distance of 10.91 to take 4th place. Pete Campbell threw 26.03 in the M50 javelin for 3rd, and Paul Rogers recorded 2.34 to take 4th place in the long jump.

In the ladies competition Cheryl Graham, competing under the second claim rule was 3rd in 17.5 in the F50 100, Julia Condon clocked 22.4 for 6th place in the F40 race, and Louise Webster placed 3rd in 15.9 in the F35 100. In the 2000 walk there was a 2nd place for Julia in 17.56.2. Over 400 metres Louise Webster bagged 2nd place in the F35s with 74.7, Emily Simmonds clocked 78.9 to take 4th place in the F40s, Cheryl Graham was 4th with 80.7 in the F50s. Over 1500 there was a win for Sabrina Thomas in the F35 race with 5.30.6 and in the F40 race a 3rd place for Lucie Tait-Harris with 5.32.7. The relay team of Webster, Thomas, Simmonds and Tait-Harris clocked 2.18.9 to take 3rd place. And in the field Louise Webster on the F35 discus with a 19.95 metre throw, Danni Braine was 5th with 2.14 in the F50 long jump, Cheryl Graham was 6th with 9.37 in the F50 javelin and Sabrina Thomas recorded a jump of 2.53 to take 5th in the long jump. Overall, the ladies placed 4th and the men were 2nd in the league on the night, with 3 more fixtures to come.

There was lots of Great Run action in Birmingham over the weekend. Abigail Wright took part in the A J Bell Junior Great Birmingham Run at Alexander Stadium, finishing in 72nd overall in 11.32. There were more vests out of the city centre course on the following day with Dave Norman placing 176th overall and 4th in his age group in 42.55, Pete Campbell finished in 49.16 to take 608th place, Anna Moore finished in 50.31 to take 736th place and Nico Campbell was 868th in 51.53. Over the half marathon distance Paul Dean placed 50th in 1.19.41, Tony Cheema was 5th in his age group and 132nd overall in 1.24.07, Ben Mescam finished in 2015, the position rather than the year, clocking 1.46.41 and Piers Butler crossed the line in 1.57.19 to take 3682nd place.

There was some action on the track in the Youth Development League Lower Age Group fixture where the club placed 3rd on the day. Aupromeyo Mukherjee winning the U16 boys 100 in 12.00, Shae McIntosh placed 2nd in the B race with 12.90, Aupro also won the 100 in 24.60, with Shae bagging another 2nd place in 26.80 in the B race. Over 300 Jonathan Yang was 2nd in 40.30 in the U16 A race with Aaron Guest taking 2nd in the B race with 42.90. Jonathan took 2nd in the 800 in 2.10.00 with Nahum Worrall filling the same spot in the B race in 2.19.30. Over 1500 there was a win for Harry Monkton in 4.22.90, with Theo Ulfig winning the B race in 4.23.40. Hugo Helmers won the 300 hurdles in 52.50 and bagged another win in the long jump with a leap of 4.51. In the throws Aupromeyo was 2nd in the A discus with 14.61, Shae won the B event with a throw of 13.37 metres. Lewis Neilson was 3rd in the javelin with 17.50. The team of Aupro, Shae, Hugo and Dequandre Willock placed 1st in the 4 x 100 relay with 50.20.

In the U16 girls side of the competition there was a win for Samatha Agomoh in the 100 A race in 12.00, Michell Okafor won the B race in 13.20. Samantha won the 200 in 25.40, with Michelle also winning the B event in 27.00. A great result for both girls in the short sprints. Luna Dutton placed 3rd in the 300 in 47.00. Over 800 Kiki Guest placed 3rd in the A race in 2.35.90 with Clara Butler-Montero placing 2nd in the B race in 2.43.70. Amiyah Pal was 4th in the A race with 6.12.60 and Alice Cattell ran 6.39.10 to win the B race over 1500, Alice was also 4th in the high jump clearing 1.25 metres. In the throws Kiki Guest placed 3rd in the A shot with 5.83, Erin-Mia Nash was 2nd in the B competition with 4.92. And in the relays the team on Luna, Samantha, Michelle and Elizabeth Odusola won the 4 x 100 in 53.70, and Alice, Kiki, Erin-Mia and Clara were 3rd in the 4 x 300 in 3.22.90.

In the U14s competition Nolan Hughes placed 3rd in 13.60 in the 100 A race with Tate-blu Quintyne-Smith taking the win in the 13.70, they swapped places in the 200 with Tate-blu placing 3rd in the A race with 28.90 and Nolan placing 2nd in the B race in 29.60. Over 800 Finley Anslow placed 2nd in 2.32.20 with Cameron Guest winning the B race in 2.36.80. In the 1500 Seb Palmer claimed victory in the A race with a time of 4.37.70. Elijah Enwerem won the 80 Hurdles A race in 13.90. In the throws Callum Hamilton was 2nd in the long jump with 3.85, Elijah won the high jump clearing 1.35 with Callum winning the B competition with a clearance of 1.25 metres. Thomas Rowbotham won the shot throwing 7.66, Tom also won the discus with 20.71 and was 2nd in the javelin with 12.85. And in the relays Callum, Tate-blue, Elijah and Nolan were 2nd in 56.00 in the 4 x 100.

There was a win in the 100 A race for Ava Robinson in the girls side of things clocking a time of 13.30, Ava also claimed the victory over 200 in 28.00, with Hero Johnson-Woods also winning, with a time of 29.00 in the B race. Over 800 there was a 2nd place for Biba Guest with 2.40.20, Chloe Cashmore-Jones won the B race in 2.42.20. In the field there was a 2nd place for Hero in the long jump with a leap of 4.08, Hero was also 2nd in the high jump with a clearance of 1.25. Biba Guest was 4th in the shot with 3.92, Ava was 2nd in the discus with 15.56. And in the 4 x 100 relay the team of Ava, Biba, Hero and Martha Harris placed 3rd in 58.60. There were a list of non-scorers competing with Elizabeth Odusola clocking 28.8 over 200 metres, Abigail Wright recording a time of 3.02.1 for 800, Dequandre Willock posting 12.1 for 100 and Elizabeth 13.7 over the same distance. Callum Hamilton clocked 14.11 over 100, Hugo Helmers 13.9 over 100, Elijah Enwerem 28.7 over 200, Martha Harris 2.53.1, Erin-Mia Nash 2.53.0, Aaron Guest 2.26.7 and Charlotte Rogers 2.56.0 all over 800 metres.

There was more marathon action in Vancouver, Canada where Dave Joynson clocked another incredibly consistent finish with 3.30.45 to place 955thand 9th M60, Gill Mitchell was 6906th in 6.02.07 as they both ticked another one off towards their next milestone.

At the other end of the scale Lucie Tait-Harris competed in the British Milers Club sponsored Bannister Miles on the iconic Iffley Road track in Oxford, the scene of the very first sub four-minute mile over 70 years ago. Lucie clocked an impressive 5.42.40, placing 5th in her race, and a 1500 metre split of 5.19.93. Dave Norman raced in the Bannister Road Mile, a point-to-point course through the Oxford City Centre clocking 6.11.7 to place 154th.

Finally, there was some midweek road race action down the road with the DK10k where Rob Sannwald-Dunn made the most of his marathon training placing 20th in 37.31, Paul Rogers was 41st and 2nd M60 in 40.00, Jay Patel finished in 70th in 42.13, Brett Robinson clocked 42.57 in 90th place, Dave Norman was 100th in 43.13 and Rob Edwards struggled with a hamstring issue but managed to get round in 51.51 to take 255th position. And Adam Cotterill, not sure if it’s our Adam Cotterill, finished in 56.07 in 353rd.
