We’ll start this week’s update with some track & field action in the Staffordshire County Championships at Stoke where Tom Warrender made his long-awaited return to action placing 4th in the 5000 for Senior Men in 17.35.08. In the U14 100 there was a win in her heat for Ava Robinson in 13.62, Ava then ran 13.46 to take the gold medal in the final. Michelle Okafor won her heat in 13.23, as did Samantha Agomoh who crossed the line in 12.14. Samantha went on to win the final in 12.07 with Michelle taking the bronze medal clocking 13.04. Aupromeyo Mukherjee was 2nd in the U16B 100 final in 11.84, Shae McIntosh placing 5th in 13.15 and Tyann Mahey coming 6th in 13.29. Leo Norris placed 4th in 11.74 in the U18 100 final. La-Taunya Samuels was 2nd in 12.55 in the Senior Women 100 final. In the middle distances Rocco Hawley placed 7th in the U16B 1500 final in 4.25.79.
Ava Robinson won her 200 heat in the U14G category in 27.52, and just missed out on a second gold in the final by two hundredths of a second taking the runners up spot in 27.54. There were more medals for Samantha Agomoh and Michelle Okafor in the U16G 200 final clocking 24.9 and 26.4 respectively taking 1st and 2nd place. Aupro pocketed another silver medal in the U16B 200 final crossing the line in 23.75, Tyann Mahey placing 4th in 26.27 and Shae McIntosh in 5th in 26.63. La-Taunya Samuels claimed a silver medal in the Senior Women 200 final recording 25.48.
In the field events Lee Thornton took 2nd place in the Senior Men Discus competition with a throw of 38.61, almost 10 metres clear of the bronze medal position. Lee also competed in the Senior Men shot going one better and claiming gold with a 12.68 throw. Ethan Kendrick won the U20 Men hammer event with a throw of 63.97, Ethan has been selected to represent GB & NI at the forthcoming Loughborough International meeting which demonstrates how far he has come and the work put in by both Ethan and his coach, Matt Sutton.
In the Worcestershire Championships there was superb gold medal for Jude Martins in the U10 quadrathlon, he recorded 49.00m for event 1, 8.08 in event two, 24.42 to win the howler, Jude was 2nd in the 400 in 1.17.10, had another 2nd place in the long jump recording 1.73, only 6 cms behind 1st place. The called it a quadrathlon but appear to have five events, still a Worcestershire County Champion is still a Worcestershire County Champion.
There was some road race action at the Market Drayton 10 where Dan Maskew was first home for the club in 7th place clocking 34.56, Andy Jarvis finished in 39.40 in 60th place, Lee Wright came home in 97th place in 41.28, Louise Webster was 14th female and 460 overall in 50.53, and Christine Smith crossed the line in 1.29.47 in 1680th place. Over the 5k distance there was a 5th place finish for Natalie Griffiths, placing 39th overall in 21.49 in the Middlewich 5k.
There was some action of the University track in Birmingham on Wednesday where Tammy Saunders won her heat of the women’s 200 in 24.75, Lucie Tait-Harris was 6th over 800 in 2.39.12, Nahum Worrall placed 5th in a PB of 2.18.45, Gary Worrall was 3rd in 2.09.64, Jonathan Yang was 6th in 2.07.11, a PB in his heat. Over 1500 there was a 7th place for Theo Ulfig in 4.25.69 and a 10th place finish and a PB for Rocco Hawley in 4.27.03.
Talking of universities our collegiate cousin in Michigan, Louise Hackett, took part in the Len Paddock Open where she placed 2nd in the 3000 in 9.53.04 and ran a leg of the 4 x 400 relay team who placed 2nd, running around 62 seconds for the second leg as the squad finished in 4.03.51.
And in the Shropshire fells there was an 18th place finish for Paul Dean in the Caradoc Classic, over 5.6k and including 286 metres of ascent, all for £7. Paul crossed the line in a time of 30.02.
