The older brigade were in track & field action at the weekend in their first match of the season in Division 3NE at Telford, calling on some of our fledgling seniors to make up the squad finishing in 3rd place on the day.
Leo Watson was 2nd in the 100A in a time of 11.2, the same time as the winner, Jessie Osamuyi Oni won the B race in 11.5. Leo claimed the win over 200 winning the A race in 22.4, with Jessie winning the B race in 23.3, with Kyle Astley-Weah winning the C race in 24.7. There was a 3rd place for James Crust in the 400A, crossing the line in 51.0, Roshane Gordon won the combined B+C race in 51.0 with Paul Dean placing 5th in 60.5. Over 800 there was a 5th place finish for Conor Blincoe in 2.09.8, Gary Worrall placed 3rd in the B race in 2.12.5. There was a 6th place finish for Paul Dean over 1500 in the A race in 4.53.3 and over 5000 Tom Warrender placed 5th in 17.09.9, with Paul Dean taking 6th in the B race in 17.30.0. The club won the 4 x 100 in 47.7 and placed 3rd in the 4 x 400 in 3.48.7.
In the field events Theo Nicholls was 2nd in the high jump clearing 1.55, with Ayrton Hughes winning the B competition with 1.40. Nacardo Lewis was 4th in the long jump with a distance of 5.47, Eugene Goche was 2nd in the combined B & C event with 5.33, and Theo Ricketts placed 4th with 4.47. Nacardo was 2ndin the triple jump with a leap of 11.44, with Roshane Gordon winning the B comp with 11.19. In the throws Lee Thornton won the shot throwing 13.30, with Tegjot Singh winning the B competition with 9.10, Lee won a tight discus competition throwing 39.25, Tegjot won the B event with 29.94. Lee made it a hat trick of victories in the hammer with a throw of 37.05 stealing the victory, Tegjot was 3rd in the B with 12.88. Tegjot won a thrilling javelin with a 42.97 throw, winning by a centimetre with the runner up recording 42.96.
In the ladies events Tammy Saunders won the 100Awith 12.2, Nteokan Egopija won the B race with 14.2, Tammy also claimed the win in the 200 with 24.6, Danni Braine placed 2nd in the B race with 45.8. Danni was 4th in the 800A picking up valuable points with a time of 3.40.6. Megan White was 2nd in the 1500A with a splendid 4.46.3.
In the field Nteokan Egopija was 5th in the long jump with a leap on 3.12, Danni Braine was 4th in the B event with 2.37. Nteokan claimed 6th spot in the javelin throwing 13.89, Danni was 7th in the B competition with a distance of 5.06.
And as guests Ayrton Hughes ran 12.5, Theo Ricketts 11.8, Eugene Goche 11.9, Kyle Astley-Weah 12.0, Theo Nicholls 12.3, and Cyon Watson Nash 12.3 over 100 metres.
There was more track action in the north at the Trafford BMC Meting where Jack Stockton raced over 1500 placing 6th in 4.00.23.
There was some action on the tarmac in the Worcester Half Marathon where Jay Patel, wearing number 1, placed 45th in 1.35.42, and over the full marathon distance Dave Joynson recorded a time of 3.36.45 in 25th place taking 2nd M60 and Gill Mitchell stopped the clock in 5.12.40 in 187th place.
There was plenty to chose from on Wednesday evening. Over the fells in Shropshire Rob Sannwald-Dunn took part in the Batch Bash, a 4.8k race with roughly 1000 feet of climbing, coming home in 18thplace in 32.15.
There was action on the roads in the Phoenix Flyer 5k, 3 fast laps around the streets of Dawley. Will Hughes was first back for the club in 17th place and 3rd U20 in 17.15, Paul Dean was 23rd in 17.45, James Hodgkiss placed 60th overall in 19.15, Chris Staien placed 64th in 19.20 and Katie Staien placed 103rd and took 1st F35 in 20.38. Simon Calrow was 2nd M60 and 106th in 20.50, Andy Dyall was 149th in 21.46, Rob Edwards was 198th in 23.28, Anna Moore 221st in 23.54, Mark Perry 228th in 24.13, Nico Campbell 232nd in 24.15, Craig Buggins 248th in 24.34 and Russ Blair 376th in 29.36.
And there was a good representation from the club at Alexander Stadium performing in the Midland Vets Track & Field League under the floodlights where the men placed 2nd around 10 points behind Cannock & Stafford and the ladies are currently 4th chasing Cannock & Stafford, Burton and Telford at the halfway point of the season. On the night Lionel Spittle placed 3rd in the M70 200 in 41.4, Duncan Davies was 7th in the M60 200 in 35.9, Greg Asbury was 2nd in the M50 200 in 26.7, and Paul Clarke ran 27.0 to place 4th in the M40 200. Over 800 there was a 2nd place for Paul Clarke in the M50 race in 2.30.4, Gary Worrall won the M40 race in 2.11.9 and Dave Norman ran in the M35 event placing 4th in 2.54.0. In the 1 mile walk there was a 3rd place for Paul Rogers in 10.35.3 in the M35, and a 4th for Phil Evans in the M50. Over 3000 Dave Norman ran 12.07.0 for 6th place in the M35 category, Jon Hart ran 9.29 in 2nd place in the M40 race and Paul Rogers was 1st in 11.14.9 in the M60s. In the mixed 4 x 400 relay the team of Gary Worrall, Jon Hart, Louise Webster and Emily Simmonds placed 2nd in 4.38.7 and Dave Norman, a last-minute replacement, Cheryl Graham, Lucie Tait-Harris and Paul Clarke were a fast-finishing 3rd in 5.03.0.
In the field Dave Baggott was 4th in the M35 hammer with 13.45, Greg Asbury won the M50 triple jump with 9.36, Paul Rogers was 6th in the M60 hammer with 13.87, Greg placed 4th in the M35 high jump clearing 1.30, Phil Evans threw 5.39 in the M35 shot to take 6th place, Lionel jumped 2.11 in the M70 long jump to take 3rd placed and there was another 3rd place for Dave Baggott in the M50 discuss with 21.15.
In the ladies competition Cheryl Graham placed 4th in 34.1 in the F50 200, Julia Condon recorded 48.6 in the F40 200 and Louise Webster was 3rd in 32.5 in the F35 200. Over 800 Lucie Tait-Harris clocked a satisfying 2.36.0 for 2nd placed in the F50 race, Claire Bradley was 4th in 3.33.5 in the F40 category and Louise Webster was 2nd in the F35s with 2.54.4. In the 1 mile walk Julia Condon was 4th in 15.10.4in the F35. Over 3000 Cheryl Graham clocked 12.56.6 for 4th place and Emily Simmonds was 3rd in 12.46.3 in the F35 and F40 events.
In the field Louise Webster recorded 37.18 to win the F35 hammer, Claire Bradley cleared 0.90 for 5thplace in the F35 high jump, Lousie won the F35 shot with a throw of 8.87 and Cheryl Graham was 7th with a throw of 10.82 in the F50 discuss, running from finishing the relay to record a single throw for the points.
And to finish the week with a flourish there were some quick times at the super fast Mid Cheshire 5k on Friday night where the first 56 finishers over the line all clocked under 15 minutes. Sam Thursfield was first back for the club in 15.53 to place 162nd, Oliver Cresswell was 173rd in a frustrating 16.00, Luke Maskew was 217th in 16.20 and Joe Marples was the 4th Wolverhampton & Bilston athlete home in 17.47 in 446th position.
