As last weekend was very quiet over the Bank Holiday, I’ve held some things over for a week so this will be a double header with only a couple of events hosting the Wolves & Bilston crew over the scorching longer weekend.
Rob Edwards braved the intense heat in the Sandwell Valley 10k, the inaugural event hosted by West Bromwich Harriers placing 51st in 55.44, and there was some action north of the border in the Edinburgh Marathon where Dave Joynson and Gill Mitchell ticked off another 26.2 adventure, Dave coming home in 3.38.59 in 1154th place and Gill crossing the line in 6.15.46 in 9524th.
Seven days on and it was still baking, particularly at the exposed bowl of Horspath Athletics Stadium in Oxford for the British Masters Throws, Pentathlon, 10k and 1-mile Championships. Lucie Tait-Harris was the first cab off the rank finishing 2nd in a very tactical race, the target to come away with a British Championships silver rather than bronze and that target was achieved outkicking the 3rd place runner to cross the line in 5.45.70, claiming a Midland Masters gold medal as a bonus. Dave Norman was hoping to come away with a sub 6-minute time, just missing out finishing in 6.07.40 in 7th in his age group and 4th in the Midland Masters comp, and Sabrina Thomas ran a great race to finish in 5.55.88 to claim a double gold, a National title and a Midlands title in the F35 age group.
