There’s been plenty of variety over the last week or so for athletes from the club, over the fells, on the tarmac, on the track and even on the grass.
We’ll start in the Shropshire hills where Paul Dean competed in the Pontesbury Fell Race, run over 6k with 354 metres of ascent, placing 28th in 35.48.
There was some track and field action at the Midlands Senior and U20 Championships at Nuneaton where Ethan Kendrick came a very close 2nd in the U20 hammer with a throw of 63.47. There was a 1-2 for the club in the heats of the Senior 100m where Tammy Saunders crossed the line in 1st place in 12.35 with La-Taunya Samuels chasing her in 2nd place clocking 12.42, both progressing through to the final. Tammy went on to take the bronze medal in the final with a time of 12.36 with Lattie placing 5th in 12.38, in a race where three hundredths of a second covered the places from 3rd down to 6th . Twenty-fours later Lattie lined up again running 25.42 in her heat of the Senior 200m to qualify for the final where she placed 7th in 25.60. There was more track action at the Birchfield Games where Theo Ricketts placed 9th over 100 metres clocking 11.96.
On to Loughborough for the BMC PB Classic meeting where Jack Stockton ran 4.06.07 to place 14th over 1500, Oliver Cresswell clocked 4.07.31 for 9th place over the same distance, Rocco Hawley was 6th in his heat in a time of 4.21.26. Over 3000 there was a 3rdplace finish for Fred Jones in a PB of 8.61.35.
On the roads we were back in Telford for race number 3 of the Sexarathon Series, the Shropshire 4, where Paul Dean was first back for the club in 20thplace in 22.53, James Hodgkiss was 59th and 5th U20 in 25.19, Andy Jarvis was 104th in 27.47, Andy Dyall was only a few seconds behind in 27.54 in 107th place, Katie Staien placed 2nd in her age group and 117th overall in 28.19, Simon Calrow was 146th and 3rd M65 in 29.49, Rob Edwards placed 173rd in 30.53, Mark Perry 184th in 31.31, Craig Buggins 204th in 32.19, Nico Campbell 225th in 33.20, Suzanne Giles was 275th in 35.42, Russ Blair 289thin 36.32.
And a day later we were on the grass at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club for the Gavin Tipper Memorial 5k, on a twisty turning 4 lap grass course there was a 6th place finish for Charlie Tait-Harris who went off hard crossing the line in 19.24 and taking the 1st Senior prize, Rob Sannwald-Dunn was 9th and 2nd M40 in 19.40, the club matching Tipton Harriers with two finishers inside the top 10. Dave Norman was 38th overall and 2nd M50 in 22.16.
