Weekly update – 11th July 2025

We’ll start this week’s review with some action on the road from the Northeast where Jon Hart pulled on an England vest having gained selection to represent the M45 age group in international colours on the A J Bell Great North 10k. Jon put in a fantastic effort to place 14th overall and 1st in his age group, having blasted through the first 5k in 16.00 he ran a very consistent second half of the race to cross the line in a lightning quick 32.30.

Alex Blair used the Cannock Chase Half Marathon as a training run coming home in 1.57.09 to take 29th place.

There are no results yet for the YDL UAG meeting at Stourport so these might have to wait until next week, there is certainly nothing on Power of 10 and much usual reliable source has not received anything as yet. There will be more to follow on this one.

There was some midweek track action at Sutton Coldfield where the club took part in the fourth fixture of the Midlands Vets Track & Field League. The action started over 200 where Dave Guest won the M70 race in 44.8, Phil Evans placed 5th in the M60 with 34.7, Greg Asbury won the M50 race in 26.1, Paul Clarke was 4th in the M40 race with 27.6 and Ben Foster was 6th in the M35s with 28.9. Over 800 Phil Evans ran 2.39.5 for 3rd place in the M60 race, Gary Worrall was 2nd in 2.13.1 in the M40s and Danny Malone was 3rd with 2.18.6 in the M35s. Piers Butler was unfortunately DQd in the mile walk but Paul Rogers was able to finish in 11.29.5 to take 2nd place in the M60 category. Over 3000 Ben Foster placed 2nd in 10.06.8 in the M35s, Derrick Milligan was 4th with 10.12.5 in the M40s, Paul Rogers ran 11.17.0 in the M50s for 4th place and the 4 x 100 team of Greg Asbury, Gary Worrall, Paul Clarke and Danny Malone produced a flawless performance with slick changeovers to take 2nd place in 51.6. Dave Norman ran as a guest in the 3000 finishing with 12.16.3 and in the 800 crossing the line in a frustrating 3.00.6. Jay Patel also ran as a guest finishing with 31.1 in the 200 and 11.28.6 in the 3000.

In the field events Adrian Dillon was 4th in the M35 pole vault with 2.40, Matt Sutton recorded a distance of 52.76  to win the M35 hammer, Paul Rogers joked that he was only about 17 metres off the world record with his 4.94 taking 4th place in the M60 triple jump, Paul also claimed 10.73 for 6th place in the M60 javelin. Dave Guest was 2nd in the M70 shot with 5.35 and Ade Dillon was 8th in the M35 shot with 6.92. Greg Asbury cleared 1.40 for 2nd place in the M50 high jump. This was good enough for the men’s team to consolidate their position in 2nd place in the league and qualify for the cup final in September.

In the ladies side of the draw Jo Lane made her league debut with 35.8 to take 5th place in the F50 200, over the same distance Veronika Foster was 3rd in 31.8 in the F40 race and Louise Webster was 2nd with 32.00 in the F35s. Over 800 Emily Simmonds clocked 2.55.6 to take 5th place in the F40s, Louise Webster was 3rd in 2.48.8 in the F35s. In the one mile walk Julia Condon was 3rd with 14.52.3 in the F35s. Julia also guested in the 200 finishing in a time of 47.8. Over 3000 there was a 3rd place for Sabrina Thomas with 11.42.2 in the F35s, Emily Simmonds was 3rd with 12.57.9 in the F40s and Jo Lane was 3rd with 13.56.6 in the F50s. The team of Emily Simmonds, Louise Webster, Sabrina Thomas and Veronika Foster were 3rd in the 4 x 100 in 62.7. Louise Webster had a field day with a win in the F35 hammer with 36.71, a 2nd in the F35 shot with 8.68. Jo Lane was 5th in the M50 high jump with 0.95. The ladies finished 7th but only 4 points off 4th place which would have been enough to qualify for the final too.
