It was another busy weekend both on an off the track for the club, but let’s start with an apology. I knew I would forget someone from the hectic weekend of the English Schools, I’m sorry that it was Amelia Hancock, who placed 9th with a throw of 38.48 in the U20W hammer.
Miguel Francis was back on track last weekend, having jetted in from Antigua a couple of weeks ago to take part in the UK Championships in Manchester. Sporting the black vest Miguel clocked 10.30 to win his heat but then came up against Reece Prescod in the semifinal, Prescod claimed the win in 10.09, Oliver Bromby of Southampton was runner up in 10.27 to claim the second automatic qualifying spot and progress to the final with Harry Aikines-Aryeetey taking 3rd and picking up a fastest loser qualifier with 10.33, frustratingly the same time Miguel recorded in 4th place to just miss out on a spot in the final.
There was more track action on the UK Youth Development League Lower – Midlands North/East D at Tipton. Lewis Neilson was 6th in 14.4 in the 75 U13M A, Grace Hamer was 5th in the 75 U13W A in 12.1, Samantha Agomoh was 1st in 10.4 in the 75 U13W B, Poppy Richardson was 3rd in 12.9 in the 75 U13W nsA (non-scoring A race). Alesha Taylor was 4th in 13.8 in the 100 U15W A, Tiger-Lily Savage was 6th in 14.9 in the 100 U15W B. Thilana Owen was 2nd in 21.0 in the 150 U13W A, Theo Nicholls was 4th in 28.3 in the 200 U15M A, Tiger-Lily Savage was 6th in 31.0 in the 200 U15W A, Conor Mason placed 3rd in 50.7 in the 300 U15M A, Macy Read was 5th in 49.5 in the 300 U15W A, Lucy Horton finished 2nd in 48.7 in the 300 U15W B.
Into the middle distances Sam Thursfield was 5th in 2.22.6 in the 800 U15M, Jayden Burdish was 2nd in 2.29.6 in the 800 U15M B, Connor Mason was 1st in 2.43.6 in the 600 U15M nsA. Again over 800 Rocco Hawley was 1st in 2.27.4 in the U13M A, Theo Ulfig was 1st in 2.38.9 in the U13M B. Lucy Horton was 1st in 2.23.6 in the U15W A, Ronni Read was 1st in 2.28.4 in the U15W B and Maisie Roberts and Macy Read were 1st and 2nd in 2.43.3 and 2.53.5 respectively in the U15W nsA race. Clara Butler-Montero clocked 2.43.3 for 3rdplace in the U13W A, Erin-Mia Nash was 2nd in 2.49.4 in the U13W B and Heidi Hayes and Amiyah Kumar Pal bagged another 1st and 2nd for the club in the U13W nsA race in 2.46.3 and 2.57.2.
Over 1200 Kiki Guest was 2nd in 4.07.1 in the U13W A and Alice Cattell was 2nd in 4.35.7 in the U13W B. Over 1500 Oscar Davis bagged a win in 4.18.0 in the U15M A, Will Hughes was 2nd in 4.48.7 in the U15M B, Grace Hendy was 2nd in 5.13.2 in the U15W A and Esther Smith was 1st in the U15W B race in 5.53.2.
The U15 ladies were 2nd in 56.3 in the 4 x 100 and the U13 ladies were 1st in their 4 x 100 relay in 59.3. The U15 ladies were 2nd in the 4 x 300 in 3.09.7 and the U15 men were 2nd in the same event in 3.17.6.
In the jumps Theo Nicholls won the U15 M A high jump with 1.60, Grace Hendy was 2nd in the U15W A high jump clearing 1.25, Olivia Spatarao was 3rd with a clearance of 1.15 in the U13W A. In the long jump Theo Ulfig placed 5th with his only jump of 3.12 in the U13M A, Lewis Neilson placed 4th with 2.63 in the B event. Aisha Abdullah placed 3rd with a leap on 3.94 in the U15W A, Samantha Agomoh was 1st with 4.06 in the U13W A and Grace Hamer was 2nd with a distance of 2.88 in the U13W B.
In the throws Aryan Kumar Pal was 5th in the U15M A shot with 4.13 and Aisha Abdullah recorded 8.53 to take 1st in the U15W A shot. Aisha also claimed a win in the U15W A discus with 24.64. Lewis Neilson threw 7.51 in the U13M A javelin for 5th place and Amiyah Kumar Pal was 2nd with a throw of 6.85 in the U13W B javelin.
Twenty-four hours later it was the turn of the seniors to step on the track in Sutton Coldfield for their Midlands League Division 4 North East fixture where Joe Deans and Lloyd Hudson-Smith worked miracles to try to fill in as many gaps as possible, they will have both slept well on Sunday night. Psalm Roberts-Nash was 2nd in 11.3 in the 100 A with Tom Machin coming 5th in 20.3 in the 100 B and Joe Deans placing 4th in the 100 C. Over 200 Psalm was 2nd in 22.8 in the A race. Over 400 Tom was 5th in 1.30.8. Over 800 Tom Pryor ran 2.05.3 to take 3rdplace in the A race, and over 1500 Richard Wright clocked 4.51.6 for 3rd in the A race. In the throws Joe Deans claimed 3rd place with a distance on 8.55 in the A shot, a 4th place with 21.24 in the A discus, a 5th with 13.25 in the A hammer and 3rd with 20.54 in the A javelin.
In the ladies events La-Taunya Samuels was 6th with 19.9 in the 100 A and Freya Hooper placed 3rd with 14.8 in the B race. Audrey Wilson was 3rd with 2.58.6 in the 800 A and placed 3rd in 6.12.3 in the 1500 A race with Louise Webster winning the B race in 6.13.3. Louise then chucked everything she could with 3rd in the shot with 8.93, Audrey placing 5th with 4.97 in the B event, Louise placed 4th with 19.08 in the discus, 3rd in the hammer with 41.91, and 2nd in the javelin with 25.44. The club placed 5th on the day thanks to the hard work of the team managers, athletes and officials from the club.
On the road there was 93rd place finish in 41.04 for Hannah Creamer claiming 3rd F35 and Dave Norman finished in 111th in 41.49 in the lumpy Northbrook 10k in Coventry. And on the trails Rob Edwards placed 41st in the Wyre Forest Trail Half Marathon in a time of 1.53.34.
There was more midweek action on the track and into the fells. A large group travelled to Birmingham University to take part in a BMC meeting. Isobelle Jones was 1st in the BMC Gold Standard 1500 in 4.25.69. Also over 1500 in the Regional Races Megan White was 5th in 4.53.7 in the ladies race and Jack Bonser placed 3rd in 3.57.56, Harry Dyall was 8th in 4.02.34, Oliver Cresswell was 14th in 4.15.39, Louie Lambeth 15th in 4.15.63, James Neilson 16th in 4.17.08 and Fred Jones 17th in 4.21.82. And over 800 Scarlett Willoughby placed 7th in her heat in a PB of 2.30.01 and Oscar Davis was 1st in his heat in a PB of 2.04.97.
And in the Stiperstones Fell Race on the same night Beth Rawlinson placed 1st lady and 14th overall covering the 6.6k and 390 metres of ascent in 22.29, Dave Newport was 37th in 38.07 and Paul Dean placed 69th in 43.24.
Dave Norman
