We were back in track (and field) action at the weekend as the English Scholls Championships took place at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium. I’ve scrolled through pages and pages of results looking for any representatives of the club who had been competing for West Midlands, Shropshire or Staffordshire so I apologise if I’ve missed anyone who might have been hidden away in the depth of the internet.
Oscar Davis was 2nd in his heat over 1500 and posted the second fastest time of the day clocking 4.11.80 for the West Midlands. Ethan Kendrick pulled on the Shropshire vest to compete in the hammer placing 5thwith a throw of 45.37 metres and Joshua Welford ran 24.72 over 200 for Shropshire.
From the bright blue brand-new track in Perry Barr to the 137th Wenlock Olympian Games in Shropshire where there was very little to choose between William Parton and Elliot Bowen. They were level on time, both recording 11.9 over 100 U17M with William just shading it in 3rd and Elliot placing 4th. The places were reversed over 200 where Elliot won by the thickness of his vest in 24.6 with William taking the runners up spot in 24.7. Frankie Bowen pocketed herself a bronze medal placing 3rd in the U17W 200 in a time of 27.9.
There was also a 7-mile road race as part of the weekend’s events. Daniel Connolly of Mercia had been only the fourth man to finish ahead of a horse in the annual Man v Horse Race in Mid-Wales a few weeks ago, this time he was first over the line with Pravesh Patel taking the place of a horse clocking 40.43 to bag the runners up position.
There was midweek action at Nuneaton in their Night of 800 PBs where most of the Wolves athletes managed to avoid each other by running in separate heats however the one match up of the night placed Harry Dyall and Jack Bonser together, Harry was the better of the two by a small margin placing 3rd in 1.55.77 with Jack coming over the line in 7th place in 1.58.16. Grace Hendy was 3rd in her heat in 2.27.89, Lucy Horton 1st in 2.24.77, Megan White 1st in 2.28.02, Beth Dyall 4th in 2.20.57, James Neilson 1st in 2.07.80 and Louie Lambeth 5th in 2.07.77.
Greg Asbury took part in the Mids Vest League and although there are no results as yet he was looking to PB in the 200 and long jump but also aiming to run a leg of the mixed relay. I will keep an eye open for any results, but these seem to take a while. In addition, I’m also looking out for results from the Veloforte Wales Marathon at Tenby where Dave Joynson and Gill Mitchell were looking to add to their marathon total.
And there was episode 4 of Telford AC’s Sexarathon Series were a large group raced in the Vic Musgrove Fast 5k at Town Park. There were PB’s a plenty with Tyler Hawley placing 21st in 16.19, Jon Hart was 51st in 17.08, Beth Tabor was 2nd lady and 64th overall in 17.42, Paul Dean was 69th in 17.50, Dylan Illidge 72nd in 17.55, Dan Brazier 74th in 18.00, Lucy Calrow was 3rd lady and 77th overall in 18.08, Mark Judge 108th in 19.06, Keith Carter 110th in 19.06, Tony Cheema 116th in 19.17, Phil Evans was 2nd M60 and 118th in 19.24, Sabrina Thomas was 3rd F35 and 125th in 19.36, Holly Baddeley was 127th in 19.39, Brett Robinson 133rd in 19.43, Dave Norman 143rd in 19.54, Mark Illidge 19th in 20.02, Adam Cotterill 157th in 20.09, Rob Edwards 159th in 20.17, Stu Whitehouse 182nd in 21.10 and Craig Buggins placed 252nd in 23.13.
