Weekly update – 19th April 2024

There was plenty of action over the last few days over long and short, up and down, and also a bit of chucking things as track and field season kicked into life and there was plenty of clubs vests competing around the country.

The marathon season really got underway with the Manchester version at the weekend. First back from the club was Jake Brown who came home in 22^nd place in 2.34.42, Ben Foster was 171^st in 2.44.46, Sabrina Thomas was 2209^th overall and 18th F35 in 3.13.52, Dave Joynson was 2554^th and 11^th M60 in 3.17.29, Phil Evans was 2619^th and 13^th M60 in 3.18.13, Dave Norman was 4361^st in 3.30.39, Jo Lane finished in 3.25.29 to take 4978^th Ben Rawlings crossed the line in 3.35.35 in 4991^stplace, Emily Simmonds was 6577^th in 3.44.59, Rob Carrington was 9217^th in 3.58.09, Emily Rawlings was 9993^rd in 4.01.28, Danni Braine was 11965^th in 4.14.41 and Gill Mitchell ran 5.12.06 to take 19119^th place.

And in the USA Jay Patel placed 4216^th in the prestigious Boston Marathon finishing in a time if 3.07.59.

There was some action over the fells in the Llangollen Fell race over 17 miles and around 3000 feet of elevation Rich Amor-Wilkes had one of those days that runners dream of placing 22^nd in 2.28.21.

And we were back on track and field in the Leamington Spring Throws Festival where Georgina Neilson was 1^stU17W with a throw of 35.50 in the hammer.

At the Birchfield Harriers Young Athletes Meeting there was a 4^th place finish for Vienos Abdullah in the all ages hammer taking 3^rd U17 with a throw of 33.95. Aupromeyo Mukherjee placed 2^nd in the U15 100 in 12.76, and then took 4^th in the U15 300 with 43.03, James Crust placed 1^st in his heat in the U17 400 with 53.90, Ronni Read placed 9^th in 5.29.12 in the U15/U17 1500, Gabriella Okafor was 1^st in her heat in the U17 200 in 30.32. 

And in the seniors version on the following day La-Taunya Samuels placed 3^rd over 100 in 12.51 and 3^rd over 200 in 25.79, , Connor Blincoe was 3^rd over 400 in 55.17, Psalm Roberts-Nash was 2nd over 400 in 49.37 and Freya Hooper placed 2nd over 200 in 27.36.
