Weekly update – 24th May 2025

We’ll start this week’s update with a little bit of tidying up from the track & field county championships. Although there is still nothing recorded on either Power of 10 or Entry 4 Sport for the Worcestershire County Championships, I’m not convinced anyone from the club did this but it would be nice to check, the Warwickshire County Championships results are now available. Joshua-Kayin Welford placed 1st in his semi-final, and second fastest overall, in the U20 100 in 11.06, he went on to place 2nd in the final running 11.19. And to make a slight correction to last week’s round up, we listed Jolyon Davis as a Wolves & Bilston athlete as winner of the javelin in the Staffs Champs as the results had him listed as one of ours, he isn’t, he’s one of Telford AC’s. Thanks to one of our coaches for pointing out the error in the results.

Now we’ll get on to this week’s action. We’ll start with the Caradoc Classic, another of Mercia Fell Runners midweek races, this one involving 268 metres of total ascent over its 5.6k distance. Paul Dean carried on where he left off last week with another good performance, placing 21st in 29.22. There was a 2nd place finish for Adam Soley over another lumpy course in the Merrell Cannock Chase Trail Half Marathon, running the whole race solo Adam took the runners up spot in 1.29.37.

There was an afternoon of top-class action in the Shrewsbury 5k Festival. The races were split into 5 separate waves and included a masters international match between England and Wales, the opportunity for those with qualifying times to pull on their country’s colours. Darren Owen-Jones was first back for the club in the open race coming home in 13th place in 20.38, Dave Norman placed 15th in 20.45, Mark Illidge was 24th in 21.32.
