Weekly update 18th May 2025

There was a lot going on again at the weekend, at the moment there’s so much happening that it’s hard to keep up.

We’ll start with some midweek action where Paul Dean put in two performances back-to-back over two hilly courses. First was the Sheinton Steeplechase, a 5.3k cross country race with a total ascent of 100 metres, although they state this is not a traditional fell race, it isn’t far off. Paul was 13th in 22.58. Twenty-four hours later Paul toed the line in the Mow Cop Killer Mile, which was exactly what it says on the tin, an uphill mile up Mow Cop in Staffordshire, Paul was 16th in 8.47.

Paul was at it again in the Shifnal 10k at the weekend placing 4th in 37.25, Dave Newport was 15th in 40.34, Joe Marples was a place and three seconds behind in 40.37, Brett Robinson was 29th in 42.19 and Anthony Pinson was 150th in 52.43. Also, over the same distance there was a 21st place finish in the Silverstone 10k for Will Hughes in 34.14.

There was another event over the same distance just down the road from Shifnal with the Market Drayton 10k where Tony Cheema placed 28th and 1st in his age group in 38.57, Carl James was 38th in 39.37, Kane Carrington placed 93rd in 43.03, Sarah Thurley was 129th and 2ndF40 in 44.32, Rob Edwards was 154th and 3rd M60 in 45.34, Emily Simmonds was 182nd in 46.33. and Rob Carrington stopped the clock in 49.52 to take 308th place.

And there was more local action in Sutton Park at the Birmingham Running Festival, with races over varying distances, Jake Brown took on pacing duties in the half marathon, doing the job to perfection with a 1.39.44 finish in 28th place.

We’ll finish off with some track action as it was county championships weekend, in the Shropshire Championships there was a win for Scarlett Willoughby in the 800 in a close finish, clocking 2.33.30 and C J Lang placed 2nd in the U17 mens 100 in 11.50.

And in the Staffordshire Championships at Northwood Stadium in Stoke there was a gold medal performance from Seb Palmer in the U13 800 in a time of 2.30.5, Tom Pryor was 3rd in the U20 800 final in 2.02.2, with Jagtar Singh Boparai placing 5th in 2.11.8. There was a 1st place finish for Willow Dixon in the 100 U13 heat 3 in 13.9, the fastest time over the three heats, Willow then ran 13.9 in the final for the gold medal. She also placed 1st in heat 1 of the U13G 200 in 29.0 and then crossed the line in 1st place in the U13 200 final in 28.3.

Thillana Owen placed 3rd in heat 1 of the U13G 100 in 13.5, Samatha Agomoh was 1st in heat 2 in 12.5 and Michelle Okafor was 1st in heat 3 in 13.4. In the final Samatha was 1st in 12.8 with Michelle 2nd in 13.1. Samantha was 1st in heat 1 of the U15 200 in 15.2, Thillana was 3rd in 27.2 in the same heat. And Michelle her won heat 3 in 26.8. In the final Samatha took gold in 26.0, Michelle was 3rd in 26.7 and Thillana was 6th in 27.5.

Aupromeyo Mukherjee was 1st in the U15B 100 final in 12.2, and also claimed a win in the U15 200 in 25.1. Kaliyah Henry was 3rd in 13.7 in heat 1 of the U17W 100, there was a 1st and 2nd place finish in the U17M 100 final with Chyloh McKenzie taking the win from Leo Watson in 11.5 and 11.7 respectively, over 200 they both won their respective heats with Leo winning in 23.6 and Chyloh crossing the line in first in 23.1. In the final Chyloh was 2nd in 23.2 with Leo taking 3rd in 23.4. 

Quai Quintyne was 3rd in the U20 100 final in 12.3. La-Taunya Samuels was 2nd in the senior womens 100 final in 12.7. Lattie also ran 3rd in the U20 400 final in 60.8, and she was 2nd in the 200 final in 25.8. Kyle Astley-Weah was 4th in the U20 200 in 23.7, over 1500 there was a 3rd place finish for Grace Hendy in 5.01.0. James Crust was 3rd in the U20 400 in 53.1.

Amelia Hancock was 1st in the U20 discus with a throw of 22.47, she also claimed gold in the U20 hammer with 38.82 with Georgina Neilson placing 2nd with 35.14. Louise Webster won the senior womens hammer with a 41.19 throw, and in the javelin there was a win you Jolyon Davies with a huge 57.08 metres.
