Weekly update – 9th May 2025

It was a bumper week for athletes from Wolverhampton & Bilston AC with club members running jumping and throwing all over the country, so we won’t hang about, we’ll get on with it.

There was track action in Stourport in the Lower Midland North & East Division of the Youth Development League. We’ll start with the U15s where Aupremeyo Mukherjee ran 11.9 in the 100 A race to take 1st place with Hugo Helmers taking 2nd place in 114.2 in the B race. Uriah Thompson was 2nd in 16.5 in the NS 100m. Uriah also ran 31.9 in the 200 A race for 5th place, with Hugo running 29.5 for 3rd in the B race. Jonathan Yang was 2nd in the 300 A in 43.9, with Aaron Guest running 45.8 for 1st place in the B race. Harry Monkton was 3rd in 2.27.6 in the 800 A with Nahum Worrall running 2.39 1 in the B race, Arron Guest was 1stin the NS race in 2.37.7. Over 1500 there was a 2nd place for Jonathan Yang on 4.44.3 in the A race. There was a 2nd place finish for Hugo Helmers in the long jump with a leap of 4.02, Uriah Thompson won the B event with 3.80. In the throws there was a 4th place for Lewis Neilson with a throw of 4.29, Jonathan Yang was 3rd in the javelin with 19.06, Lewis was 2nd in the B javelin with 14.37. A team of Arron Guest, Uriah Thompson, Hugo Helmers and Aupremeyo Mukherjee were DQd initially on the day in the 4 x 100 relay but were later reinstated into 1st place, and Aaron Guest, Nahum Worrall, Jonathan Yang and Harry Monkton were 2nd in the 4 x 300 in 3.10.1.

In the U15 girls competition there was a win for Samantha Agomoh in the 100 A in 12.2, Michelle Okafor won the B race in 13.00 and Thillana Owen won the NS race in 13.2. Thiallana also won the 200 in 27.3. Amelia Scarisbrick was 5th in the 300 in 54.4, Erin-Mia Nash was 2nd in the B race in 52.6. Over 800 there was a 4th place finish for Kiki Guest in 2.35.2, Erin-Mia Nash was 3rd in the B race in 2.56.5. Alice Cattell claimed victory in the 800 in 2.47.0, Clara Butler-Montero was 1st in the NS race in 2.56.9. Grace Rogers placed 5th in the long jump with 3.04. Alice Cattell was 4th in the high jump with 1.20. In the shot there was a 2nd place for Esi-Boahemma Djabanor with a throw of 7.55, Erin-Mia Nash won the B event with 4.49. Esi-Boahemma was 2nd in the discus with 13.14 and 3rd in the javelin with 20.03, Kiki Guest won the B event with 11.35. A team of Thillana Owen, Erin-Mia Nash, Michelle Okafor and Samantha Ogomoh were another W&B team DQd in the relay but I understand  they were also reinstated on appeal and placed 1st in the 4 x 100, and Maya Rosa Jelic Ramesh, Kiki Guest, Clara Butler-Montero and Alice Cattel were 3rd in the 4 x 300 in 3.26.9.

In the U13 event there was a 3rd place for Callum Hamilton over 10.8 in the 75m, Cameron Guest was 3rd in the 150 in 21.5, with Callum placing 3rd in the B event with 23.8. Cameron was also 3rd in the 800 A with 2.39.6. Seb Palmer won the 1200A in 3.44.9. In the jumps there was a win for Callum Hamilton with a leap of 3.94 in the long jump. Cameron was 4th in the shot with 4.83,

In the girls competition there was a 5th place in 12.00 in the 75m A race and a 2nd place for Esmee-Nyah Gray in the NS event in 11.7. Willow Dixon was 1st in the 150 in 20.5, Esmee-Nyah also claimed a win in the B event in 22.3. Biba Guest was 2nd in 2.54.1 in the 800, Retina Gordon won the B race in 2.45.7. Grace Oluwajobi was 2nd in the long jump with 3.59, Orlia Ouli won the B event with 3.51.Esmee-Nyah Gray was 2nd in the high jump with a clearance of 1.15. Yonitse Djabanor won the shot with 6.60, Biba Guest was 2nd in the B event with 4.40, Yonitse was 3rd in the javelin with 12.76. And a team of Biba Guest, Retina Gordon, Orlia Ouli and Willow Dixon won the 4 x 100 with 59.5.

There was more track action on Sunday in the Triangular League for the lower age group where the club placed 4thon the day. Abigail Evans placed 2nd in the U11 75A in 12.8, Isla Gaunt was 1st in the 75B in 11.8 and there was a 1 -2 in the 75NS with Ocean Schloss taking the win in 12.1 from Chloe Cashmore-Jones who was runner up in 12.6. Jensen James Bowen won the 75 U11B race in 12.2, Farrell Sogbesan claimed a win in the B race in 11.2, Samuel Worrall placed 1st in 11.5 and Seth Owen-Stuart 3rd in 13.1 in the NS race and Isaac Heinke was 1st in 11.6 and Edison Bowden was 2nd in 12.5 in the 2nd NSA race. Over 50m there was a 1st place for Naveah Maxwell in 8.3, 2nd for Edan Gray in 8.6, 3rd for Isabelle Bowden and 4th for Reggie Petford in 9.8 in the U9 girls NS race. Henry Shaw was 1st in 8.9, Charlie Wilkes 4th in 9.6 and Noah Oxley 5th in 9.9 in the U9 boys NS race. Over 100m there was a win for Willow Dixon in 14.00 in the U13 girls A race, Alba Jones claimed victory in the B race in 14.8, and Hero Johnson-Woods was 1st in 14.8 and Sophie Pilsbury 2nd in 17.3 in the NS event. In the boys category there was a win for Callum Hamilton in the 100 U13 A race in 13.9, Jameson Gotsall-Jones was 3rd in the B race in 17.6 and Kian Davies was 3rd in the NS race in 16.8. Over 600 there was a clean sweep in the U9 NS race with Noah Oxley placing 1st in 2.19.4, Isabelle Bowden 2nd in 2.24.5 and Reggie Petford 3rd in 2.34.4. In the U11 girls A-B race over 600 Chloe Cashmore-Jones was 1st in 2.01.5, Abigail Evans 2nd in 2.06.6, Isabelle Palmer 3rd in 2.07.4, Ocean Schloss 4th in 2.08.8 and Isla Gaunt 5th in 2.15.1. In the boys version Isaac Heinke was 1st in 1.59.8, George Shaw 2nd in 2.02.9, Samuel Worrall 3rd in 2.03.2, Edison Bowden 5th in 2.06.3 and Alfred Harrison 8th in 2.33.4. Over 800 there was a 3rd place for Charlotte Rogers in 3.09.5 in the U13 girls race, Sophie Pilsbury was 4th in 3.09.5. In the boys event Seb Palmer bagged a win in 2.40.3, Cameron Guest was 2nd in 2.54.2 and Kian Davies 4th in 2.59.1. Although the result do not list the relay runners there was a win for the club in the 4 x 50 U11G in 34.8, a win in the 4 x 50 U11B in 32.8, a win in the 4 x 100 U13G in 61.1 and a 2nd place in the 4 x 100 U13 B in 60.8. Callum Hamilton was 1st in the U13 long jump with a leap of 4.36, Jameson Gotsall-Jones was 2nd in the U13 shot with a throw of 4.98, Cameron Guest was 3rd with 4.65. Abigail Evans won the U11 howler with 15.2, Isla Gaunt placing 6th with 7.2, and there was a win for Farrel Sogbesan in the U11 long jump with 3.54, Seth Owen-Stuart placed 6th with 2.58, Jack Hendy was 10th with 1.93 and Alfred Harrison 11th with 1.90. Hero Johnson- Woods won the U13 high jump with a clearance of 1.20, George Shaw won the U11 howler with a throw of 36.26, Seth Owen-Stuart was 2nd with 21.36, Jack Hendy 8th with 17.26, Jenson James Bowen 10th with 16.01 and Edison Bowden was 11th with 15.73. There was a 1st place finish for Farrell Sogbesan in the U11 high jump with 1.00, Jenson James Bowden was 2nd U11 with 0.90. Callum Hamilton was 3rd in the U13 javelin throwing 9.78 and in the U13 girls long jump Hero Johnson- Woods leapt to 3.63 for the win with Esme Gray in 2nd with 3.13 and Charlotte Rogers 6th with 3.01.

The club has entered a team in the Midland Veteran Track & Field League and had their first fixture of the season at Telford where the team finished in 3rd place. In the 100 M75 Dave Guest won in 19.4, Paul Rogers was 4th in the 100 M60 in 16.9, Greg Asbury was 2nd in 12.6 in the M50 race, Paul Clarke was 5th in 13.5 in the M40 and Piers Butler ran 18.7 for 6th place. Phil Evans was DQd in the 2000 walk for M60 for having a bent leg in the shadow of the finish line. Over 400 Paul Clarke ran 59.0 for 3rd place, Phil Evans recorded 78.3 for a joint 2nd place on time. Over 1500 Jon Hart was 2nd in 4.21.0 in the M35 race, Gary Worrall ran 4.32.5 for 2nd in the M40, Adam Guy was 3rd in 5.25.4 in the M50 race. A team of Gary Worrall, Paul Clarke, Sabrina Thomas and Veronika Foster clocked 1.59 in the mixed 4 x 200 for 2nd place. In the throws Piers Butler recorded 12.31 in the M35 discus for 7th place. Phil Evans recorded 4.84 for 6th place in the M60 shot, Paul Rogers cleared 1.00 for 4th place in the M60 high jump, Lionel Spittle threw 13.41 for 3rd place in the M70 discus, Piers also leapt 1.84 in the M50 long jump for 5th place and threw 5.08 for 8th in the M50 javelin. Greg Asbury recorded 4.59 in the M35 long jump for 4th place.

In the ladies events Danni Braine was 4th in 19.9 in the W50 100, Veronika Foster clocked 15.7in the W40 100 in 4th place, Louise Webster ran in the W35 100 recording 15.00 in 2nd place. Julia Condon took part in the 2000 walk clocking 16.42.7 in 4th place. Louise Webster recorded 71.1 for 3rd place in the W35 400, Veronika Foster ran 74.5 for 2nd place in the W40 400. Danni Braine was 4th in 99.5 in the W50 400. Over 1500 Sabrina Thomas clocked 5.29.0 for 3rd place in the W35. In the throws Louise Webster threw 17.96 for 3rd place in the W35 discus and Danni Braine threw 7.07 for 5th in the W50 javelin, Danni also leapt 1.92 for joint 5th in the W50 and Sabrina Thomas recorded 2.97 in the W35 long jump for 6th place.

There was more action for the older brigade in the British Masters Road Relays Championships at Mallory Park in Leicestershire. There was an 11th place finish in a total time of 1.03.18 in the M55 category for Dave Norman with 21.17, Rob Edwards with 21.58 and Andy Dyall who clocked 20.03, the M45s team were 8th in 1.14.13 with Greg Asbury running 18.03, Lee Pearson 18.29, Adam Guy and Tony Cheema 37.40 between them, at the results website appears to have an issue over the M45 results at the time of writing as it is giving Adam Guy a time of 37.40 and not listing Tony Cheema who ran leg 4, another source (Strava) states that Adam ran 19.08 and Tony 18.31, which when added together comes to virtually 37.40. And the M35s finished an impressive 6th in 1.40.29 with Ashley Atkinson running 17.21, Derrick Milligan 17.23, Jon Hart 15.23, Ben Foster 17.04, Gary Worrall 17.29 and Dan Maskew 15.46.

A trio of club athletes were picked to represent the Midlands in the Cardiff 5k with James Neilson clocking 15.22 to take 50th place in the Seniors race, Sam Thursfield was 28th U20 in 16.13 and Beth Rawlinson was 52nd in 26.54 in the U20s. Ian Thursfield also ran placing 671st in 22.19. Beth Rawlinson also raced again on Bank Holiday Monday in the Bannister Mile Road Race in Oxford, claiming a win in the ladies race in 5.13. Dave Norman also took part clocking 6.30 to take 152nd and 15th in his age group.

There was some action on the tarmac in the Great Birmingham Run Half Marathon where Steve Newman placed 50th in 1.19.31, Derrick Milligan was 60th in 1.20.21, Ben Pilsbury clocked 1.26.12 for 170th place, Nico Campbell was 1937th in 1.48.00 and Kuldip Khela finished in 2.24.36 to take 6259th. And over the 10k distance there was a 26th place finish for Paul Dean who clocked 34.51, Manpreet Pangli was 1178th in 54.06 and Leny Hall was 2515 in 1.02.10.

And finally it has been pointed out by Megan White, via her mum, that I may have missed out one of Grace Hendy’s performances in the UAG YDL meeting from last week. I’m not sure which one I may have missed out so to ensure completeness here’s the lot. Grace put it a sterling effort having competed in the London Mini Marathon on Saturday before pulling on the vest again on very little sleep for the league fixture at Stoke. Grace won the U17 1500 in 4.52.3, was joint 1st in the high jump with a clearance of 1.25 and ran the 3rd leg of the winning 4 x 100 relay.
