Weekly update 8th March 2024

There was action across the world stage at the weekend for athletes, and officials, from Wolverhampton & Bilston AC. Some of you may have spotted Noel McKakly and Fiona Hancock on the BBC coverage of the World Athletics Championships in Glasgow where they flew the W&B flag (not literally) by officiating on the world stage.

Tony Cheema was also in global action, taking part in the Tokyo marathon. Although it was an expensive trip it was worth every penny as he produced the result his training had been promising with a PB and a huge sub three-hour time of 2.57.41. That leaves only Chicago to go to achieve a finish in all of the Marathon Majors having already crossed the line in London, Berlin, New York and Boston prior to his Japanese adventure.

A little closer to home but still overseas, Joe Flatley finished the Paris Half Marathon in 1.43.00 to take 11460th place. Having been struck down with injury in the final two weeks after overcoming a previous Achilles issue Joe was in two minds whether to compete at all and did well to finish after such a truncated preparation.
