Weekly update- 26th June 2026

There was lots of track and field action over the last week and a few other bits a pieces here and there.

We’ll start at the pinnacle at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham where Dani Rowlinson pulled on the club vest in the UK Athletics Championships, placing 11thin her heat over 1500m in 4.24.83.

There was some action in the Midlands Counties Track & Field League where Birmingham University hosted a technical match. Tom Pryor running as a second claim member placed 8th in the 3000m steeplechase, crossing the line in 11.17.16, Roshane Gordon was 2nd over 400 metres in 50.64, with James Crust placing 7th in 52.23 in the same race. Connor Blincoe was 5th in 54.68, also over 400m, and Gary Worrall was 5th in 58.82 over the same distance. Paul Dean was first home in his 400m race in 59.86. Roshane raced over 100 metres placing 7th in 11.74, Theo Ricketts was 6th in 11.78 in race 2, there was a 1-2 in race 3 where Nacardo Lewis was first over the line in 11.56, chased by James Crust in 11.62. In race 4 Cyon Watson-Nash was 1st in 11.65, and in race 6 Paul Dean was 5th in 14.37. Roshane was 5th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.57. Nacardo won pool 2 of the triple jump with 13.11.

Megan White made her steeplechase debut a winning one coming home in 11.50.73 over 3000 metres. Over 100 there was a 3rd place finish for La-Taunya Samuels in 12.43, Louise Webster was 8th in pool 1 of the hammer with a throw of 41.80 metres, Georgina Neilson placed 13th with 36.94m.

There was some midweek sprinting at Nuneaton’s Night of 100m PBs where James Crust was first in his heat in 11.69, Roshane Gordon placed 4th in 11.92 in the same race, Theo Ricketts was 4th in his heat in 11.99.

The older brigade were in Vets League action at Tamworth with the men placing 2nd on the night and a depleted womens teams finishing in 6th place on the night but maintaining their 4th place in the league. As qualification for the final is based on the combined mens and womens results the club are in a strong position with one fixture remaining.  Dave Guest was 3rd on the M70 category in 19.0, Duncan Davies placed 5th M60 in 16.2, Greg Asbury was 2nd in 12.8 for the M50s and in the M40s Paul Clarke placed 4thin 13.5, Danny Malone made a comeback from injury by running 15.0 to place 7th M35, in his trainers, over 100 metres. Paul Rogers won the M50 mile walk in 10.25.5. Over 400m there was a 3rd place for Gary Worrall in 58.6 M35, Paul Clarke was 2nd M40 in 59.5, Greg Asbury was 1st M50 in 59.0. And in the mile Danny Malone ran 5.33.7 to take 4th M35, Jon Hart was 1st M40 in 4.54.9, and Paul Rogers was 2nd M60 in 5.50.5. Dave Norman ran as a guest in the mile clocking 6.16.4. In the medley relay of 2 x 200 metres, followed by a 400m and an 800m to finish, the team of Greg Asbury, Paul Clarke, Jon Hart and Gary Worrall placed 3rd in 4.16.5.

In the field events Greg was 3rd in the M35 triple jump with a leap of 9.59 metres, Duncan Davies was 4th in the M50 hammer, having never thrown the implement before the night, with 6.19m, Dave Guest was 4th in the M70 shot with 5.47m, Pete Campbell was 3rd in the javelin with 26.10m, Paul Rogers was 6th in the M60 long jump with a leap of 2.12 metres, Joe Deans was 4th in the M35 javelin with 20.97m and set a new PB in the shot with 8.71m to take 3rd place. Joe also guested in the hammer with a throw of 19.03m and Pete tried the shot, throwing 7.83m.

In the womens events Cheryl Graham clocked 16.4 in the W50 100, Emily Simmonds ran her first adult 100m clocking 16.8 in the W40 category, and Louise Webster ran 15.9 in the W35s. Cheryl jumped into the mile walk at the last minute for the points and claimed 4 of them coming 5th in 15.31.4. Over 400m there was 3rd W35 for Sabrina Thomas in 76.6, a 3rd for Cheryl in the W50s with 79.6, and over a mile Sabrina clocked 6.06.6 in the W35s, Emily bagged a 2nd W40 place with 6.33.8 and Lucie Tait-Harris claimed a win and maximum points in the W50s with 6.03.8. The medley relay team of Sabrina, Cheryl, Emily and Lucie finished in 2nd place in 5.22.9.

Only Louise and Cheryl competed in the field with Louise coming 2nd in the W35s javelin with 20.72m and Cheryl throwing 5.66m in the shot for 6th place.

At the time of writing there are no results from the Mason Trophy, so this will be one to come back to at a later date.

There was some local low-key action on the roads in the Claverley Bells 5k where Paul Dean led the field home in a winning time of 18.07, Ben Pilsbury was 2nd in 19.28 and Tony Cheema filled the podium taking 3rd spot in 19.55. Paul was also in action on the Shropshire fells in the Dark Side of the Mynd race, covering the 6.2k distance and a total ascent of 250 metres in 37.40 to take 16th place.

And to finish us off Mark Perry raced in the Blakedown Bolt over a tough, off road 10k course, coming home in 102nd place and stopping the clock in 55.49.
