Weekly update- 10th March 2025

This will be a double header as I was away last week so will catch up now, in fact you’ll get two and a bit as I missed an age group in the National Cross Country Championships results. I apologise to Grace Hendy who continued to impress over the country with a 21st place finish in 18.27, Maya Rosa Jelic Ramesh was 209th in 22.38 and Alice Cattell was 245th in 23.25.

There was a wonderful win in Wales for Jonny Morris who claimed a convincing victory in the Anglesey Half Marathon, crossing the line in 1.10.31, almost 4 minutes clear of the runner up. Zena Asbury did some sterling work in pacing her mum around the course, finishing in 2.10.44 in 549th and 2nd U20. Lionel Spittle took part in the 10k taking the 1st M70 prize in 47.51, placing 70thoverall.

There was another top class performance over the same distance where Dan Turner took part in the North Lincolnshire Half Marathon, coming home in 1.10.27 to take 11th place. And also, over the same distance Danni Braine took part in the City of Newport Half Marathon stopping the clock in 1.48.59 to finish in 557th place.

To complete the weekend Paul Marson had a fine run over a tough course in the Kinver Edge 10k, covering 2 laps of an up and down route on tracks and trails, finishing in 2ndplace in 44.01. Ben Pilsbury chased him all the way coming 3rd in 45.47.

We had some representation in the UK CAU Inter Counties Cross Country Championships where our athletes pulled on county vests to compete around Wollaton Park in Nottingham. James Neilson pulled on the Staffordshire vest in the U20 mens race finishing a fine 45th in 27.26. Isabelle Price raced for Shropshire in the Senior womens race coming home in 67th place in 31.40, Megan White raced for Staffordshire in the U17 womens race, the county placing 12th and Megan placing 104th in 21.34, Nahum Worrall pulled on the Worcestershire vest on the U13 boys race finishing in 240th place in 13.09, Grace Hendy raced for Staffordshire placing 105th in 17.12 and Gary Worrall wore Worcestershire colours in the Senior mens race finishing in 246th place in 38.59.

And finally, there was a PB performance in the Battersea Park Half Marathon where Alex Blair stopped the clock in 1.17.50 to take 21st place and a big chunk off his previous best.
