We’ll start this week’s round up with some more high-class track action up the road as Birmingham University hosted the BMC Grand Prix – World Athletics Challenger meeting, where Owen Ulfig placed 8th over 1500 in 3.57.51 and Beth Rawlinson was 5th in 4.42.35 over the same distance.
There was more action at Nuneaton in the MCAA U17/U15 Champs where Michelle Okafor placed 3rd in 13.05 and Samantha Agomoh was 1st in 12.16 in separate heats over 100. In the U15G semi-finals Michelle placed 4th in 12.99 and Samantha was 1st in 12.22. And in the final Samantha placed 2nd on 12.17 and Michelle was 7thclocking 12.87. The girls had a very busy weekend competing over 200 with Samantha winning heat 2 of the 200 U15G competition in 25.26 and Michelle placing 3rd in the same heat in 26.79. Samantha was 2nd in her semi-final with 25.46, Michelle placed 5th in the second semi with a time of 26.58. Samantha then went on to place 2nd in the final in 24.78 to conclude a successful weekend for the pair.
There was a 1st place finish for Aupromeyo Mukherjee in heat 1 of the 100 U15B in 11.68, and then claimed victory in the final with a time of 11.57. And Grace Hendy placed 3rd over 3000 in the U17 final in 10.18.68.
There was some action on the tarmac in the Two Castles Run where Alex McVie placed 37th in 37.07.2 over the 10k distance with the course taking participants from Warwick Castle to Kenilworth Castle.
And whilst the Stafford Showground Relays seemed to pass us by there were plenty out at the Shropshire 4 for race number three in the Sexarathon Series. James Neilson claimed pride of place crossing the line in 6th, only 30 seconds behind the winner clocking 21.15, Dan Turner was 10th in 22.03, Tom Isherwood placed 16th in 22.58, Dylan Illidge was 17th in 23.04, Steve Newman 22nd in 23.22, Alex Kelly 25th in 23.45, Paul Marson 29th in 23.56, Sundeep Sunar 53rd in 25.15, Dave Newport 56th in 25.18, Tony Cheema 60th in 25.42, Joe Flatley 62nd in 25.51, Andy Horton 76th in 26.29, Brett Robinson 79th in 26.31, James Hodgkiss 85th in 26.35, Rob Edwards 103rdand 3rd M55 in 27.10, Simon Calrow 121st and 2nd M60 in 27.48, Sarah Thurley 131st and 3rd F40 in 28.23, maria Calleia was 142nd in 28.55, the other Rob Edwards was 144th in 29.03, Emily Simmonds 166th in 29.50, Ian Thursfield 184th in 30.38, Mark Perry 192nd in 31.12, Lee Pearson 257th in 34.19 and Craig Buggins was 263rd in 34.23.
Finally, there was some action on the grass in the Gavin Tipper 5k at Dudley Kingswinford Running club, the race had been run for some years in memory of a former DK rugby player who ran for the host club, competed for Black Country Triathletes and coached at Tipton Harriers and Halesowen AC & C. With all proceeds going to the cardiac rehab charity, Action Heart, there was an impressive turn out to race around a 4 lap course inside the club grounds, the off road element and enclosed course proving attractive to lots of youngsters from the local clubs, the race also forming the culmination of the host club’s Couch to 5K programme. There was a great run from Harry Monkton who claimed the first 1st U16 prize and finished 7th overall in 18.28, chasing Ben Foster who finished just ahead in 18.25, Dave Norman was 27th in 21.59, and Charlotte Rogers placed 109th crossing the line in 28.45.
