You really had to have eyes like a hawk and the 360 vision of an owl to keep an eye on everything over the last few days so I’ll apologise in advance if my eyes have failed me and I’ve not spotted something.
We’ll start off with the Staffordshire County Schools Championships at Stoke where Thillana Owen placed 2nd in the 100 final for U15W in a time of 13.3, Tilly ran a PB of 13.0 in her heat. She also raced over 200 bagging another 2nd place finish over the longer distance in 27.3. Erin-Mia Nash placed 6th in 50.8 in the 300 U15W heat 1. Heidi Hayes was 6th in 2.47.1 in the U15W 800 metres, Erin-Mia Nash clocked 2.49.5 in the same race. Over 1500 Alice Cattell was 7th in 5.48.3 in the U15 age group. James Pugh took the runners up spot in the U15 shot with a throw of 10.25, claiming a PB in the process.
In the Shropshire Championships Belle Willoughby placed 7th in the U17 200 with 31.4, having won her heat in 29.2, Scarlett Willoughby was 2nd in the 800 clocking 2.33.3, Jonathan Yang clocked 2.12.0, a PB, in the U15 800 taking 1st place. Jack Stockton won the 3000 for U17s in 9.28.8.
At the moment there are no results for the West Midlands Schools Championships and the Black Country Hammerfest, so we will revisit those at a later date.
There was more track & field action at Birmingham in the University of Birmingham Track & Field Festival where La-Taunya Samuels placed 5th over 100 in 12.32, and also placed 4th in 12.38, Ethan Muirhead was 4th over the same distance in 11.28, and 5th in 11.33. Over a mile there was a 2nd place for Jagtar Singh Bopari in 4.59.21, Harry Monkton placed 3rd in 4.59.31, Theo Ulfig was 4th in 4.59.32, Megan White was 8th in 5.06.66 and Nahum Worrall was 11th in 5.14.15. Gary Worral also raced over a mile finishing in 4.46.15, Rocco Hawley was 10th in 4.58.73.
And in the Midland Counties League Technical Match at Rugby Louise Webster was 2nd over 400 in 70.42, Danny Malone was 4th on the 400 hurdles in 72.86, Greg Asbury was 6th with a leap of 10.17 in the triple jump, Dave Baggott was 7th with a throw of 25.56 in the hammer, Louise Webster placed 7th in the hammer with 38.67 metres.
Further afield there was a win for Miguel Francis who raced in his first 200 in three years clocking 20.65 in the ABAA Development Series #6 in Antigua.
There was action on the tarmac at the Leamington Spa Half Marathon where Lee Wright placed 382nd in 1.38.02, and at the Barry 10k in South Wales where our marathon couple had a bash at something a little shorter and produced a couple of tidy performances with Dave Joynson placing 256th in 25.40 and Gill Mitchell who was 2384th in 68.10. In the Colshaw Hall 10k Paul Dean placed 284th in 42.25.
The club were up amongst the prizes in the annual Man v Horse event run over a gruelling twenty plus miles over the Welsh hillsides where Jonny Morris was 2nd human being Dewi Griffiths, a former GB internation with a 2.09 marathon PB to his credit, Jonny clocked an impressive 2.27.17. Not far behind in 15th overall and 7th biped was Dan Maskew in 2.52.19, Rob Edwards was 546th in 4.39.35. There were plenty of club members who were also in Wales at the Barmouth 10k where Derrick Milligan led them home in 15th place in 38.04, Keith Carter was 56th in 42.22, Darren Owen-Jones was 67th in 44.09, Andy Dyall was ahead in 44.06 but behind Darren on gun time finishing in 86th place, Simon Calrow was 87th in 45.15, Emily Simmonds placed 118th in 46.53, Vanessa Landreau-Barnes was 133rd in 48.07, Jo Lane placed 213th in 50.35, Anna More was 214th in 51.46, Russ Blair placed 370th in 59.16 and Joy Bailey was 741st in 1.17.46.
Finally, we were also amongst the prizes in the Claverley Bells 5k, where Paul Marson was 1st in 18.07, Ben Pilsbury was 2nd in 18.43, Lee Pearson was 3rd in 19.08, Andy Horton was 5th in 19.17 and Tony Cheema was 5th in 19.49 in a race, based on them cleaning up, it looked like they organised. They didn’t by the way.
