Let’s start this weeks round up with some tidying up. Firstly, massive congratulations to Aimee Thursfield who took the title in the Midlands Counties Athletics Association Race Walking Championships at Stratford winning the 3k U15 Girls title in 19.59.2. The club has a great tradition in race walking through Lisa Kehler (nee Langford) and the much-missed Jill Langford, and it’s nice to see Aimee is keeping that tradition alive.
There was some track action in Sheffield at the Masters Grand Prix meeting with Greg Asbury taking 3rd place in the triple jump, and 1st M50, with a leap of 10.05, a 4thplace finish in the 100, this time 2nd M50, with 13.01 and a 2nd place, 1st M50 in the 400 clocking 58.36.
The senior league continued with match two of the MCAA T&F League Div3 NE in Burton where Princewell Oriere was 4th in the 100 A race in 12.00, James Crust claimed 1st in the 100B with 11.88, over 200 there was a win for Psalm Roberts-Nash crossing the line in 22.6, Conor Blincoe made it a double for the club with a win in the B race in 24.4 and Pirincewell Oriere made it three winning the C race in 24.8. Over 400 there was a 4th place finish for Connor Blincoe in the A race with 53.6, Greg Asbury was 4th in the B race with 58.0 and Gary Worrall took 1st place in the C race in 58.1. Gary Worrall was 4th over 800 in the A race in 2.09.3, Greg Asbury was 4th in the B race in 2.15.1. Oscar Davis won the 1500 A race with 4.10.2, Tom Pryor claimed victory in the B race in 4.22.5, Ben Foster was 4th in the 3000 in 9.55.2, Garry Palmer was also 4th in the B race in 10.39.3. The club placed 2nd in the 4×100 relay in 48.4.
Theo Nicholls was 2nd in the high jump with a clearance of 1.60, and also took 4th in the A long jump with a leap of 4.59, James Crust was 4th in the B event with 4.49 and Joe Deans recorded 2.62 for 2nd place in the C event. Greg Asbury was 4th in the A triple jump with 10.19. In the throws Joe Deans was 5th with 8.60 in the shot, Craig Hancock claimed 5th place in the B shot with 4.92, Joe claimed 6th in the discus with 19.44, Craig took 6th in the B discus with 13.44, Joe bagged 6th in the A hammer with 12.68 and took another 6th place in the javelin with 21.06 in the A comp. Craig was 6th in the B javelin with 7.24.
In the women’s side of things there was a 3rd place in the 100A for Gabriella Okafor in 13.5, the club had an “unknown” listed in the 100B with 15.1, Gabriella Okafor was 4th in the 200A with 28.4 with Danni Braine racing in the200 B race crossing the line in 43.4. Veronika Foster was 4th over 400 in the A race with 73.6. Over 800 Scarlett Willoughby placed 2nd in the A race with 2.35.3, Veronika Foster placed 2nd in the B race with 2.55.5 and Danni Braine won the C race with 3.34.9. In the 1500 Louise Webster was 5th with 5.53.3 in the A race, Veronika was 6th in the 3000 in 13.42.5 and Veronika also had a go at the long jump with a leap of 3.50 for 4th place.
In the throws Louise Webster was 2nd in the shot with 9.49, Amelia Hancock claimed 3rd in the B comp with 6.58, Amelia then took 5th in the A discus with 23.22, with Louise coming 4th in the B event with 15.92, Amelia was 2nd in the A hammer with 40.04, with Louise winning the B string with a throw of 32.92, and in the javelin Louise won the A competition with a throw of 24.5, Amelia taking 5th in the B with 12.49.
There was action on the road in the Wilmslow Summer 10k where Dan Turner led the club home in 51st place with a time of 34.22, Sam Thursfield was 137th in 36.59, Derrick Milligan was 155th in 37.24, Tony Cheema 189th in 37.52, Sabrina Thomas placed 647th in 44.54 and Ian Thursfield was 731st in 45.40.
And over the fells there was a 217th place finish for Imogen Harley who took part in the Lakeland Trails Ultra over 55k which included three mountain passes and 7000 feet of ascent, luckily there were 5 well stocked feed stations to get runners to the finish. Imogen covered the distance in an impressive 12.18.48.
