Weekly update – 30th May 2024

It was another hectic week for athletes from Wolverhampton & Bilston AC across all surfaces and all disciplines.

We’ll start with some track action in the Upper Midlands North & East Division 1C upper age group track and field meeting at Stourport. Sebastian Darville finished 3rd in 12.4 in the 100 U20 A and bagged another 3rd place in the 200 U20 A race in 26.4. James Neilson won the 3000 U20 A in 9.07.8. Brianna Sailsman was 2nd in 14.6 in the 100 U20 A race, Scarlett Willoughby was 1st over 800 in 2.29.4 in the U20 A and Millie Williams also won the U20 B over 800 in 2.34.8. Charlotte Higgins was 2nd in 25.9 in the 100 hurdles for U20 women, Amelia Hancock was 3rd in the U20 A long jump with 2.56, then won the U20 A shot with 6.68, won the discus with 23.72, won the hammer with 40.49, and was 2nd in the U20 A javelin with a throw of 7.08. 

Jesse Osamuyi Oni was 3rd in the 100 U17 A with 12.1, James Crust won the 100 U17 B race in 12.1, Quai Quintyre was 2nd in the 200 U17 A in 25.0, and Jesse won the 200 U17 B in 25.5. James Crust was 2nd in 55.3 in the 100 U17 A. Aryan Kumar Pal was 4th in the 800 U17 A but no time was recorded in the results. Oscar Davis was 2ndin the 200 U17 A in 9.27.0. James Crust was 2nd in the long jump with 4.22, Tegjot Singh was 1st in the U17 shot with a throw of 9.49, he was also 2nd in the discus with 22.95 and 2nd in the javelin with 25.50.

Alesha Taylor was 3rd in 13.9 in the 100 U17 A and Mia Hamer was 4th in 14.2 in the B race. Alesha was also 4thin the 200 A race in 29.3 and Mia was 4th in the B race in 30.0. Macy Read was 4th in 53.7 in the 300 U17 A race. Zoleka Mzuku was 2nd in the 800 U17 A in 2.25.3, Ronni Read was 2nd in 11.46.2 in the 3000 U17 A. Mia Hamer jumped 3.19 to take 4th place in the U17 long jump, In the throws Veinos Abdulla was 2nd with 7.20 in the shot, 3rd in the discus with 14.90, 1st in the hammer with 38.45, and Georgina Neilson was 1st in the B hammer with 36.77.

There was action north of the border where Dave Joynson and Gill Mitchell continued their marathon adventures with Dave placing 1336th in 3.29.01 and Gill finishing in 5.36.17 to take 9220th in the Edinburgh Marathon. Emily Simmonds took on the half marathon distance coming 1214th in 1.41.25.

Not content with just a marathon Russ Blair took on the London to Brighton Ultra over 100k finishing in 19.02.40 in 313th place.

There was action on the tarmac in the British Masters Open Road Relays Championships at Mallory Park race track in Leicestershire where a decent M35s team placed 7th best in the country, at one point they were in 2nd place, with Jon Hart clocking 15.04, the 6th fastest leg of the day, Phil Nicholls finishing in 15.43, Gary Worral 17.07, Luke Maskew 16.26, Tom Isherwood 16.33 and James Wright 18.00. The club also fielded a 4-man M45s team who placed 18th with Darren Owen-Jones finishing in 19.55, Adam Guy pulled on the vest and ran 22.26, Dave Norman ran 20.36 and Rob Edwards 22.02.

And to catch up quickly, Isobelle Jones placed 8th in 9.34.36 over 3000 in the Loughborough International meeting and then placed 2nd in 9.35.26 in the Watford Harriers Open Graded Meeting, again over 3000.
